AWHT Colour Creations #25 Mango Melody

Mango Melody with Sending Hugs and Tidings & Trimmings

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart 2021-2022 Colour Creations Blog Hop.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a delightful yellow with a touch of orange called Mango Melody. Mango Melody is part of the Brights Colour Family and is a lovely colour for flowers, certain fruit, the sun and autumn leaves to name a few. It is also a great orange yellow that works brilliantly with bright pinks like Magenta Madness.

Mango Melody is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Soft Pastels Assortment; the Brights & Sweet as a Peach Designer Series Paper; Rainbow Glimmer Paper; Ombre Speciality Paper and the Artistry Blooms Adhesive-backed Sequins. The cards below have used Mango Melody Classic ink, Card-stock, Stampin' Write Marker; Soft Pastel, Artistry Blooms Sequins, Rainbow Glimmer Paper and a little bit of the Sweet as a Peach Designer Series Paper plus a range of other bits and pieces.

Here are my cards showcasing Mango Melody:

I wasn't sold that Mango Melody would be great for Christmas cards but as I am still needing to build my Christmas card stash I decided to take up the challenge. Mango Melody is lovely for flowers, so what flowers could I choose? I decided to go with a non-traditional bundle for Christmas. Also, in my musings, I thought that Mango Melody would be good to illustrate light/illumination which led me to think of stars - my second card was born.

CARD 1:

As I was browsing my floral bundles I spied the Sending Hugs stamp set and thought of sending "Christmas Hugs". Loving Mango Melody with Mossy Meadow and Gold (metallic) I chose this colour combo, but also added touches of Cherry Cobbler for the berries to bring a touch of tradition to the colour combo.

The main Sending Hugs stamp, was stamped in Versamark ink on Shimmery White card-stock and heat embossed with Gold Emboss powder and a Heat Gun. The image was water-coloured using the fine Water Painter with Mango Melody, Mossy Meadow, Cherry Cobbler and Pool Party Classic Stampin' ink for the background. Once dry, the image was fussy cut. A small section of the Shimmery White card-stock was water coloured in an ombre effect from Cherry Cobbler, Mango Melody and Mossy Meadow inks. The HUGS letters were cut from this section with some Foam Adhesive Sheet attached.

A piece of Basic White card-stock was dry embossed with a Painted Texture 3D embossing folder and then splattered with Mossy Meadows and Mango Melody ink from Stampin' Write Markers. This was mounted on a slightly larger piece of Mango Melody card-stock. Some Gold Shimmer Ribbon was tied around the card front.  A piece of Mossy Meadows card-stock (for the background) was gold heat embossed around the edges after stamping the edges with the leaves from the same stamp.

The water-coloured panel was adhered to the card front. Some Vellum card-stock was cut with the large die and adhered over the water-coloured panel. The letters spelling HUGS were added and the word "Christmas" from the Words of Cheer stamp set was White heat embossed on a small piece of Mango Melody card-stock. A bow with Gold Shimmer Ribbon was tucked under the edge of the coloured panel with a couple of Glue Dots and some Mango Melody sequins (from the Artistry Blooms sequins) added some shimmer.

Basic White card-stock was stamped in Mango Melody Classic ink with another greeting from the Words of Cheer stamp set and some leaves from the main Sending Hugs stamp were added to the RHS edge. Similarly a Basic White C6 envelope was stamped with the leafy edge of the large stamp in Mango Melody ink.

CARD 2:

A piece of Basic White card-stock was dry embossed with the Merry Melody 3D embossing folder. Some powder scraped from a Mango Melody Soft Pastel (from the Soft Pastel Assortment) was lightly applied with a Blending Brush over the centre of this embossed card-front. This was mounted at an angle to a piece of Mango Melody card-stock; which in turn was mounted to a Basic White Thick card-stock base.

The detailed
star die from the Christmas Trimmings dies cut a star from Rainbow Glimmer Paper at the Mango Melody end. One edge of the star went into the Magenta Madness section. This decided my colour scheme, ie Mango Melody with Magenta Madness on white. Both Mango Melody and Magenta Madness water-colour washes were added to Shimmery White card-stock. A patterned star was stamped in Mango Melody ink on the Mango wash. Small stars were die cut over the stamped image and from the Magenta Madness wash and a larger star was also cut from the Mango Melody wash.

The stars needed something to ground them on the card-front, so a strip of coordinating Sweet as a Peach DSP (that was a combination of Mango Melody and Calypso Coral with dots of white) was added across the centre. To give the detailed star some dimension, 5 Basic White die cut stars were layered on top of each other, with the Rainbow Glimmer star on top. This thicker star was adhered to the large star cut from the Mango Melody water-colour wash. The stars were arranged and adhered in place. Some Gold Glimmer Ribbon was deconstructed and some of the threads were wrapped around and adhered to the back of the large star.

"Noel" from the Tidings & Trimmings stamp set was stamped in Mango Melody ink on Basic White card-stock that had a little Mango Melody Soft Pastel lightly colouring the centre. Some delightful Mango Melody Artistry Blooms Sequins were sprinkled around to add some more glimmer. The final touch was the addition of some sprinkled Wink of Stella

A card inner of Basic White card-stock layered at an angle over Mango Melody card-stock was stamped in Mango Melody ink with a star from the Tidings & Trimmings stamp set. The same star and ink was added to a Basic White C6 envelope. As Shelli said again recently - there should never be a naked envelope.

The colour combinations are not traditional Christmas colours. Must admit, many of my cards have not used traditional colour schemes this year. Are you strictly traditional in your colour schemes?

  1. Both of your cards are lovely, bright and cheery, Andrea. I especially love the Christmas hugs card; those products are gorgeous, and I love how you've used colour on them. Beautiful work!

  2. Andrea, your cards are such a wonderful example of how to use a colour you would not normally associate with Christmas in a Christmas card. To answer your question, I love both traditional and non-traditional colour schemes and I've certainly loved what you've done with the colour schemes on your card tonight.

  3. Wow, what a bright and cheery colour palette for Christmas! I would never think to use these for Christmas, but they are amazing together. I love those stars on the white embossed background with the music, and then the first cards has so many wonderful layers, I keep going back to take them all in. Beautiful cards.
