AWH Colour Creations Blog Hop #35 Night of Navy

Night of Navy with Enduring Beauty & Hot Air Balloon

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a deep navy blue called Night of Navy. Night of Navy is part of the Neutrals Colour Family and is a wonderful navy blue that can coordinate with so many colours. This colour is lovely for dark skies, deep water, a blue and white colour scheme and anything with a deep blue.

Night of Navy is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Stampin’ Blends Combo; Neutrals Designer Series Paper as well as many other products.

Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ ink, card-stock, Stampin’ Write Marker, Night of Navy Bordered Ribbon and Ombré Matte Decorative Dots have been used in the creation of these projects plus a range of non-Night of Navy bits and pieces.

Both cards are more simple single fold cards without many, many layers apart from mounts for the card fronts. Having said that, I couldn’t resist Dimensionals. The stamps and dies can be found in the new January-April 2024 Mini Catalogue that launched last week. There are so many wonderful products in this catalogue. Have you had a change to check it out? (I would be delighted to help you if you don’t have a demonstrator already).

This first card features the gorgeous Enduring Beauty stamp set. These stamps coordinating with a wonderful set of stencils as well as dies; however, this card only features the main floral image that was silver heat embossed on to Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.

The card front panel was ombré blended with Night of Navy Classic ink. Water was painted over the image and dabbed with paper towel to lift the ink from the leaves & flowers. It doesn’t show well in the photos but lifting the strong ink from the image left shades of blue and purple. Night of Navy ink was then partially painted into the image to give some depth of shading.

Given the purple shades the coloured panel was mounted onto Fresh Freesia card-stock, then Night of Navy card-stock. A Basic White card-stock panel was mounted directly to the Night of Navy card base and the card front panel was added with Dimensionals. Have you seen the Thoughtful Moments Hybrid Embossing Folder? The ‘Thinking of you’ sentiment was embossed and die cut out in one pass through the Cut & Emboss Machine. It is simply gorgeous. There are many ways to work with this Hybrid Folder - this is just simply embossed and die cut out. Some light Fresh Freesia blending was added to the top and bottom edges. The sentiment was added with Mini Dimensionals.

The decorative touches included some Night of Navy Bordered Ribbon across the card with some Silver Elegant Trim. Bows were tied with the same ribbon/trim and added with Glue Dots.   Some Night of Navy Ombre Matt Decorative Dots were sprinkled near the sentiment.

A panel for writing a personal message was partially stamped with the Enduring Beauty Floral image and silver heat embossed. A little light Night of Navy blending was added over the image. A Basic White C6 envelope was decorated in the same way.

I had fun with the Faux Bleaching with water and there was no smell of bleach.

CARD 2

Some Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper was wet with water and some Night of Navy ink was added to create a water-coloured background. After the panel was dry I could see mountains in the ink so created the card in Landscape orientation.

I love navy and white as a colour combo and was planning on just using the 2 colours for this card. Again, I was taken with purple emerging from the Night of Navy water-colour so used a Fresh Freesia mount which gave a lift to the image. A Basic White mount also lightened the overall effect.

Balloon pieces were die cut from Basic White card-stock using the Hot Air Balloon dies. I love the various decorative design pieces. Some Dimensionals gave a “lift” to a couple of hot air balloons. A sentiment from the coordinating stamp set was white heat embossed onto Night of Navy card-stock, and then fussy cut.

One of the borders was cut away from the Night of Navy Bordered Ribbon. It was tied into a bow and tucked under the sentiment. Some Iridescent Pearls Basic Jewels were scattered around the sentiment.

A Basic White card inner was stamped with the larger balloon and centre panel. The centre panel wasn’t quite straight so I took a Stampin’ Write Marker - the fine tip, and coloured in the uneven sections. I so love Stampin’ Up!s coordination of products where colours seamlessly match. The Basic White C6 Envelope was similarly stamped however, it wasn’t a clean stamp so both coloured with the fine tip of the marker and also added a little light blending.

Thank you so much for dropping by on you way around the second Colour Creations Blog Hop for 2024. We are still a smaller group but I am sure there will still be so much Night of Navy inspiration. Don’t miss hopping around.

  1. Andrea, I love the way you've picked up the purple tones in this ink and added the Fresh Fresia to both cards. Your exquisite blending shows the softer side of Night of Navy, with the first feminine card really showcasing the gorgeous new Enduring Beauty stamp set and the second masculine card showcasing the Hot Air Balloon bundle.

  2. Your cards are beautiful, Andrea! The purple in Night Of Navy frustrates me so much when I'm watercolouring (thank goodness for Blueberry Bushel!!), but you've used it to complete advantage on your gorgeous cards.

  3. Andrea both your cards show a beautiful softness to Night of Navy using watercolouring techniques. And how awesome is the Thoughtful Moments hybrid EF? Love the embossed sentiment!

  4. Ooh, now that is a different use of the Enduring Beauty stamp and I love it. I am a blue girl, so I do gravitate to anything with blue tones. The silver embossing was a great choice to then watercolour. The Fresh Freesia undertone doesn't bother me (I love that colour too) and you've used it to your advantage. The hot air balloons are brilliant in white against the watercoloured background!

  5. You've used a lovely colour combination for both cards, Andrea. I love the silver-embossed floral image, and watercolouring, on your first card - so elegant. The white-on-white balloons are beautiful on your second card. Lovely work.
