AWH Colour Creations Blog Hop #16 Calypso Coral

Calypso Coral with Poised Peony

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is showcasing a beautiful soft orange called Calypso Coral.  Calypso Coral is part of the Subtles Colour Family and is a soft pinky orange that works well with various colours, including Petal Pink, Pretty in Pink, Lost Lagoon, Lemon Lolly to name a few and it is wonderful when depicting flowers, fruit (incl oranges, peaches, etc), fish, star fish and so much more.

Calypso Coral is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Stampin’ Blends Combo; Watercolor Pencils (Assortment 1), Subtles Designer Series Paper as well as Thoughtful Journey, A Little Latte and Unbounded Beauty DSPs; Thoughtful Journey Memories & More Cards; Thoughtful Designs Speciality DSP; Hello Hollyhocks Kit, By Your Side Kit, The Scenic Route Travel Journal Kit, Your Day To Shine Kit, Happy Houseplants Kit, The Best Destination Kit, Forever Friends Kit and Wreath of Blooms Kit; plus Adhesive-backed Pearl Trio & Ombré Matte Decorative Dots.

This project has incorporated Calypso Coral as Classic Stampin' ink, card-stock, Stampin' Write Marker, Stampin’ Blends, Watercolor Pencils (Assortment 1) and the Thoughtful Designs Speciality Designer Series Paper.

My Poised Peony stamp set had yet to see ink and it seemed perfect for use with Calypso Coral. This stamp set is a stand alone set. It has beautiful images, with 3 different sized flowers and sentiments in a gorgeous font. My card is almost a one layer card, which is quite unusual for me.

The flower stamps were individually stamped in Basic Beige Classic Stampin’ ink along the right side of the card front. Masking Paper was also stamped with the 2 larger peonies then fussy cut. The masks were laid down over the stamped image to enable another image to be stamped above, giving an impression that the higher flowers sit behind the lower images.

The images were coloured with a mix of Stampin’ Blends and Watercolor Pencils. The flowers were coloured with Calypso Coral and Petal Pink Blends Combos and the leaves with Lost Lagoon and Soft Sea Foam combos. After colouring all the images I thought it needed something, so pulled out my Watercolor Pencils, specifically Calypso Coral and Old Olive to add a little extra richness and fine detail. I love this effect of mixed media.

The edge was fussy cut away with my trusty Snips.

A little Calypso Coral splattering was added with a Stampin’ Write Marker. I couldn’t resist adding a heat embossed & fussy cut sentiment on Dimensionals together with a double Linen Twine bow tucked under part of the sentiment with Glue Dots. The Linen Twine had been coloured with the Dark Calypso Coral Blend. A few Petal Pink Foiled Gems also were coloured with the same Blend marker and added near the sentiment.

To increase the effect of the front fussy cut edge, a strip of Calypso Coral / Cajun Craze Thoughtful Design SDSP was adhered inside the card on the right hand side. The mid-sized peony image was also added to the card inner in Basic Beige ink. A Basic White C6 Envelope was also stamped with a few peonies.

Thank you so much for dropping by to check out my Calypso Coral project. I hope you found something to spark your interest.

  1. Andrea, your fussy cut peony edge looks amazing and draws attention to the strip of Thoughtful Designs DSP. Your mixed media colouring really adds depth to your stunning card.

  2. The masking of the peonies, and fussy-cutting of the stamped card edge, are very effective techniques, Andrea. I do like how the Watercolor Pencils add a different look, to the areas coloured with Stampin' Blends. The embossed and fussy-cut sentiment looks lovely.

  4. Such a pretty card Andrea and those peonies pop against that SDSP strip. The mix of Stampin Blends and Watercolour pencils is very effective.

  5. I love how you have cut the edge of your card to reveal the patterned paper behind. I thought it was a partial die cut, until I read that you fussy cut it! Awesome!

  6. Beautiful, Andrea, I love how you placed the flowers on the edge and fussy cut one side. They look great with the Cajun Craze strip behind when the card is closed.

  7. The fancy fussy-cut edge around the peonies is just lovely Andrea, especially the way it reveals the SDSP behind.
