CASEing The Catty #490 - CASE a Sketch

CASE A Sketch meets Reindeer Fun

Hello, Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and #490 Challenge with CASEing the Catty.

I am so glad you have dropped by. You may have come from Rebecca Scurr, as you take this week’s Blog Hop or perhaps arrived directly here; either way I am delighted you are here. At the end of my blog, I have linked to Monique Fielder so you can continue with the Blog Hop.

At CASEing the Catty we love to use the samples from the Stampin' Up! Catalogues as inspiration and each week we have a different theme to guide our CASEing. To CASE is to "Copy And Selectively Edit" or some say "Copy And Share Everything". This week we are CASE-ing the sketches found on page 16 of the 2024 Stampin' Up! September-December Mini Catalogue.

There are numerous sketches or layouts provided on page 16, some have been used in the Catalogue plus there are many more. They can be a wonderful starting point when creating your project. For this week’s challenge I chose to use this sketch:

I have been playing with the Reindeer Fun bundle recently but hadn’t used the set of builder dies that create a cute reindeer head shot. I thought 3 reindeer could reflect the 3 rectangles. When creating the deer it became apparent that they would not fit across a portrait card so it was changed to landscape. Also to reflect the 3 rectangles, the background was water-coloured in 3 sections. A piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper was wet on wet water-coloured using Summer Splash, Pool Party and Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin’ inks with the flat tipped Water Painter.

When dry, the water-coloured panel was splattered with a dark Summer Splash Stampin’ Blend. The larger die from the Reindeer Fun dies that cuts a hole with leafy spruce around half of the circle was cut 3 times and then trimmed apart to create a leafy base behind which the reindeer emerge. This panel was mounted on some of the Coastal Cabana woodgrain design from the Country Woods Designer Series Paper. The edges were torn to provide more texture. After constructing the card the DSP seemed to dominate so thin torn strips of the other side of the DSP - a lighter woodgrain, was laid over the top, while still showing small sections of the Coastal Cabana DSP.

The focal panel was mounted onto a piece of Basic White card-stock that had been embossed with the gorgeous Forever Plaid 3D Embossing folder. Strips of the neutral DSP were adhered behind the embossed panel allowing a thin strip to be seen. In turn, this was mounted onto a Thick Basic White card base.

Each reindeer was created from 3 die cut pieces. Each deer is a different colour. A combination of Early Expresso, Pecan Pie, Crumb Cake, Basic Beige, Very Vanilla and Basic White card-stocks were used. The die cut pieces had a little ink blending added, whether touches of White Craft ink for highlights or Pecan Pie for shading. Each one was popped up on a Dimensional. Did you notice the red nose on the centre deer? It’s an inlaid Cherry Cobbler die cut nose. White splattering was added over the card.

A sentiment from the Reindeer Fun Stamps was white heat embossed onto the woodgrain DSP. It was trimmed down with a little flag on one side. A Linen Twine bow was tucked under the sentiment strip. The final touch - a scattering of White Loose Snowflakes.

Inside the card, a couple of little trees from the same stamp set was added in Crumb Cake ink onto Basic White card-stock. Another sentiment was also stamped in Crumb Cake ink. In the same way as the card front, 2 woodgrain strips were tucked under the top and bottom edges of the Basic White panel. A C6 Basic White envelope was stamped with 3 of the trees in Crumb Cake. I love some coordination of design elements both inside the card and with the envelope.

Thank you so much for spending time with me. I so appreciate you.
