AWH Colour Creations Blog Hop #30 Highland Heather

Highland Heather with One of a Kind & Frozen Edges

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a beautiful mid-purple colour called Highland Heather.  Highland Heather is part of the Subtles Colour Family and as a Subtle it is pale-ish but on the deeper side. It can coordinate with many colours, including other purples, blues, reds/pinks and yellows (the latter as a complementary colour) to name a few. It would be wonderful for berries, flowers, a colour contributing to evening skies or even snowflakes plus anything else needing a pale-ish purple.

Highland Heather is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Stampin’ Blends Combo; Subtles Designer Series Paper as well as Flowering Zinnia, Perennial Lavender, Meandering Meadows Designer Series Paper; Three Color Glimmer Paper and Purple Fine Shimmer Gems.

These cards have incorporated Highland Heather as Classic Stampin' ink, card-stock, Stampin' Write Marker, Stampin’ Blends and Purple Fine Shimmer Gems.

CARD 1:

While focussing on snowflakes for this card, I have combined Highland Heather with a couple of deeper blues, ie Boho Blue and a touch of Misty Moonlight. The blending started with Highland Heather Classic Stampin’ ink, working diagonally across a panel of Basic White card-stock. Boho Blue ink was blended onto the panel, coming in from the opposite angle. Some Misty Moonlight ink was added over the opposite edges using a different Blending Brush.

After wiping the card front with an embossing buddy it was stamped in Versamark ink using the snowflake flurry stamp from the Frozen Edges stamp set. It was then White heat embossed using some new Wow Emboss Powder. Some more ink was blended over the heat embossed stamping.

A background panel of Highland Heather card-stock was dry embossed using the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder. A little White Craft ink was gently blended around the panel’s edges before being adhered to the Highland Heather card base.

Snowflakes were die cut using the One of a Kind dies from the gorgeous White Glimmer Paper. The snowflakes were coloured with the Highland Heather Stampin’ Blends combo creating different depths of Highland Heather. A number of die cut snowflakes were trimmed down to a smaller size with Snips. One snowflake had 2 sizes layered together. A label was cut using one of the Peaceful Season dies and then stamped in Highland Heather ink using a sentiment from the One of a Kind stamps. This was added to the card front with Dimensionals.

The Highland Heather gems from the Purple Fine Shimmer Gems were added to the centre of the die cut snowflakes and then to the centre of larger heat embossed snowflakes to give all over glimmer. A piece of trimmed in half lengthwise White Iridescent Striped Ribbon was tied into a double bow and adhered to the hole in the Peaceful Season label.

A Basic White card inner had an off-cut of the White embossed and blended colour panel adhered to the side. A die cut snowflake coloured with a light Highland Heather Stampin Blend was also adhered in place. Some small snowflakes from the Frozen Edges stamp set were stamped in Highland Heather ink on a Basic White C6 envelope.

CARD 2:

This is a bonus card for you using similar colours (without Misty Moonlight)

I won’t go through a rundown of products and processes, enough to say the Peaceful Season stamps and dies were used with the Peaceful Evergreen dies and a water-colour background of Highland Heather and Boho Blue Classic inks on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. The background was dry embossed with the Painted Trees 3D Embossing Folder.

The trees were die cut from Basic White card-stock using the Peaceful Evergreen dies.

The same gems and ribbon added shimmer.

  1. Very pretty cards, Andrea. I wouldn't have thought to use Misty Moonlight with Highland Heather, but it looks so beautiful. I love the colour of the die-cut glimmery sentiment on your second card, too.

  3. Two gorgeous cards, Andrea! Your blending on card one makes all of the snowflakes pop - it is a winter wonderland! And there is so much wonderful texture and expanses of white on card two. They are equally delightful!
