Coastal Cabana with Sea Turtle +

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a rich deep berry colour called Coastal Cabana. Coastal Cabana is one of the Brights Colour Family and is a bright-ish aqua. As the name suggests, this colour is lovely for sea themes and could be used for so many other things. 

Coastal Cabana is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads, spots & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Watercolor Pencils Assortment 2; Soft Pastels, Brights Designer Series Paper as well as the Confetti Birthday Kit, Light the Candle Card Kit and Ombré Matt Decorative Dots.

Coastal Cabana card-stock, ink and Stampin’ Write Marker have been used in the creation of this project plus a range of non-Coastal Cabana bits and pieces.

The Sea Turtles stamp set arrived in my last Stampin’ Up! order and it seemed a brilliant combination to pair it with Coastal Cabana. I recently saw a card by Kim Gibbons Fee, a UK Demonstrator and previous Stampin’ Up! Artisan, where Kim used the bubble technique. I hadn’t played with this technique for ages and thought it would be fun to try it in Coastal Cabana. I had forgotten how important it was to keep the amount of water to a minimum and found I needed to keep adding many drops of re-inker and then more & more. I am disappointed the fun bubble effect doesn’t really show in the photos. It is evident in real life but still rather delicate.

I started with a small bowl, partially filled with water. A little dishwashing liquid was added to the bowl and then numerous drops of Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin’ re-inker. I put an end of a straw into the water and blew till bubbles built up and over the top of the bowl. The bubbles were scooped off onto a piece of Basic White card-stock. Initially, there was no colour effect, so I added more, & more, & more drops of ink. Bubbles were blown and scooped over 2 pieces of Basic White card-stock. As mentioned, in the end the bubble effect was still delicate but I thought it would be OK. Looking back now I would have liked it a bit darker so the effect was more evident. 

A little diluted Crumb Cake ink was applied with the wide brush Water Painter to indicate a sandy beach. When the front panel had dried thoroughly a little Embossing Paste was applied with a Palette Knife to the area where sea & sand converge. This was left to dry too.

The small turtle from the Sea Turtle stamp set was stamped onto Basic White card-stock in Misty Moonlight Classic Stampin’ ink. The stamp was turned over on the block and then stamped over the turtle image in second generation Coastal Cabana Classic ink. They are so cute in real life.  Some extra colours, depth and highlights were added to give the turtles a little more dimension. Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive Blends combos were used and then the White Watercolor Pencil (Assortment 1) was used to had highlights. 

The star fish from the Sea Turtle stamp set were stamped in Crumb Cake ink and then over stamped in second generation Petal Pink ink using the back of the stamp. The sea dollars were stamped in Crumb Cake ink and filled in with second generation stamping. The turtles, star fish and the sea dollars were all fussy cut.

This card is a simple fun-fold card, that is when the front flap opens (as above), there is another flap that can open to the right. This was created with a Pool Party card base with a smaller Coastal Cabana card base adhered inside the Pool Party card to the back panel, but with the inner card opening to the right. I have used the top of this flap for a turtle scene. They are swimming in the sea. A panel of bubble coloured card-stock was cut with a Deckled Rectangle die, then mounted on a slightly larger piece of Basic White card-stock before being mounted onto the top Coastal Cabana panel. Part of a larger filigree sea plant from the Beauty of the Deep stamps was white heat embossed in the lower left corner. (Only little bits can be seen behind the turtle & plants - but at least I know it’s there - wink).

The Beauty of the Sea bundle was used to create sea plants (one being heat embossed with white on Vellum & the other die cut and lightly inked with a Blending Brush) and the anchor (silver embossed on Vellum). Some Linen Thread was tied to the anchor and frayed.

The card front was created with the bubble technique panel adhered to a slightly larger piece of Basic White card-stock. A circular Stylish Shape die cut a hole through the card front and also through the Pool Party panel so the scene underneath can be partially seen. The card front was positioned with Dimensionals. A little turtle was added near the hole and some white embossed sea plant was tucked under the card front with it showing over the scene below. A sentiment from the Something Fancy stamp set was white heat embossed onto Pool Party card-stock. It was positioned with Mini Dimensionals, with a couple of star fish tucked underneath with some frayed twine (a strand of the Silver Threaded Twine that was sitting on my work station). A few Flat Adhesive-backed Pearls were scattered near the sentiment. I love these Pearls.

The inner panel for writing the personal message is a piece of Basic White card-stock with a couple of star fish and sea dollar, a sentiment from the Seaside Bay stamp set and an extra Flat Adhesive-backed Pearl. The snippets of bubble coloured card-stock seen on the back panel were left over from die cutting a panel with a Deckled Rectangle die.

A C6 Basic White envelope was stamped in Coastal Cabana ink with one of the sea plant stamps from the Beauty of the Sea stamp set.

Christmas with Sparkling Snowflakes

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Heart of Christmas Blog Hop.

This week I am showcasing the Sparkling Snowflakes bundle for a number of Christmas cards. I was reminded recently of the Emboss Resist technique with ombre blending by Emma Goddard, a wonderful UK SU Demonstrator. I thought the Sparkling Snowflakes stamps would work beautifully with different colour combos and in the end created 3 similar but different cards. Here are my cards:

CARDS 1 & 2

Cards 1 and 2 are similar, but with different colour combos and sentiment/labels.

Both card fronts were Basic White card-stock. The 3 different sized snowflakes from the Sparkling Snowflakes stamp set were randomly stamped with Versamark ink onto each of the card fronts and then heat embossed with White Emboss powder from the Basics Emboss pack, the Embossing Accessory kit and the Heat Tool. Stampin’ Up!s delightful Blending Brushes were used to apply the inks.

Card 2 started with Balmy Blue Classic Stampin’ ink, then Coastal Cabana, Fresh Freesia and a little Highland Heather inks were applied. Both card fronts were trimmed slightly to remove the darkened edges and then mounted onto slightly larger panels of Basic White card-stock.  Card 2’s card front was added directly to a Fresh Freesia card base.

Card 1 also started with Balmy Blue Classic Stampin’ ink, then Coastal Cabana, Lost Lagoon, Pretty Peacock, Misty Moonlight and Night of Navy inks were applied.  A tissue was used to rub off excess inks from the embossed snowflakes on both card fronts. It is surprising how much ink comes off onto the tissue. The white embossing does whiten back up. Card 1’s card front was adhered directly to a Pool Party card base.

Card 1 - A label was created using the coordinating snowflake punch. A strip was cut 2” wide from Basic White card-stock. Both ends were punched with the snowflake design. A sentiment from the Sparkling Snowflakes stamp set was stamped in Night of Navy ink onto the punched label. Thin strips of Pretty Peacock Soft Shimmer Speciality Paper were added to the side edges of the label. 

Card 2 - A Vellum card-stock label was die cut using the second largest circle die from the Stylish Shapes dies. A sentiment was created with stamps from the Christmas Classic stamp set, ie “Christmas” was stamped in Highland Heather ink onto Basic White card-stock. “Happy” was white heat embossed onto Fresh Freesia cardstock. Both words were fussy cut out and added to the label with Mini Dimensionals. Basic White die cut snowflakes, cut using the Chic dies, were also added. 

Card 1 - Some White Iridescent ribbon was trimmed down on one side, as it was a bit too wide. It was fed through punched holes. The label was added with Dimensionals. Iridescent Pearls Basic Jewels were added to each snowflake centre and a few tiny ones near the sentiment.

Card 2 - The remaining thin piece of Iridescent ribbon was tied into a small bow and tucked under the sentiment with a Glue Dot to hold it in place. As with the previous card, Iridescent Pearls were added to snowflake centres, plus a couple of tiny ones.

All the card centres had a thin strip of the coloured embossed card front adhered to the side of a Basic White card-stock inner. A sentiment was also added with coordinating ink. The pictured sentiment is from the Sparkling Snowflakes stamp set and was stamped in Misty Moonlight ink.

All the coordinating C6 Basic White envelopes were stamped with snowflakes in coordinating inks.

CARD 3

The third card in similar, but doesn’t use a range of colours for the blended background. It only uses White Craft ink around the edges of the Crumb Cake card front.

The 3 different sized snowflakes were stamped in Versamark ink onto the Crumb Cake card front. The ink did darken the card-stock so it was easy to see where the stamps had gone. The panel was white heat embossed as described above. The White Craft ink was blended around the edges leaving the centre un inked.

Snowflakes were die cut using the Chic dies and the largest Stylish Shape circular die cut a label from Vellum card-stock.

A sentiment from the Christmas Classics stamp set was white heat embossed onto the Vellum circular label. The Vellum label and the die cut snowflakes were arranged. The snowflakes were adhered to the Vellum circle with Mini Dimensionals and then additional Mini Dimensionals were added to the underneath side of the label in the same position as the Dimensionals on top so they would not show from the front. Wink of Stella was added to each die cut snowflake to add  sparkle. It was also splattered around. The final touch was the addition of Iridescent Pearls Basic Jewels in the centre of snowflakes.

The card inner and coordinating envelope received similar treatment as the other cards. The envelope was stamped with Crumb Cake ink.

Cherry Cobbler with Paper Florist Dies

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a rich deep red called Cherry Cobbler. Cherry Cobbler is one of the Regals Colour Family and is a warm red with a touch of purple. This colour would be lovely when used for flowers, cherries and is a brilliant colour for Christmas.

Cherry Cobbler is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Stampin' Blends Combo; Watercolor Pencils; Regals Designer Series Paper as well as Joy of Christmas DSP and Festive Pearls. 

Cherry Cobbler card-stock, ink, Stampin’ Write Marker and Festive Pearls have been used in the creation of this project plus a range of non-Cherry Cobbler bits and pieces.

As I am trying to spur myself on into creating for Christmas I decided to use Cherry Cobbler for a Christmas card. I also thought I would think laterally and use non-Christmas products for Christmas while using a christmas-y colour scheme.

I think one of the dies within the Paper Florist dies could be interpreted as poinsettia like (just squint your eyes and use your imagination). Three sets of this flower were cut from Basic White card-stock as well as leaves and flower buds. I also cut out the pieces for a different flower but decided not to use it when arranging the various elements. 

The background panel was ombre coloured with Cherry Cobbler Classic Stampin’ ink and a Blending Brush. Isn’t Cherry Cobbler a delightful pink when its only applied lightly. I love exploring the different tints, tones and shades that can be created with a colour. To add a tad of extra interest one of the Brilliant Background dies was used to pierce a design in 2 opposite corners.

The flowers were coloured with Cherry Cobbler Classic Stampin’ ink and a Mini Blending Brush. The leaves were coloured with Old Olive ink and the flower centres with touches of Wild Wheat ink. A Basic White card-stock card front was also stamped in second generation Crumb Cake ink using tiny hearts from the Country Bouquet stamp set. A little splattering with a Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker was added and the splattering embossing folder from the Stripes & Splatters 3D embossing folder set was used to emboss the front panel.

The smaller card front panel was mounted onto a slightly larger piece of Cherry Cobbler card-stock. Some gold trim from the On-Line Only Gold & Silver Trim Combo Pack was tied around the centre and then into a bow near one edge. This centre panel was mounted to the background using Dimensionals. All of the floral pieces were arranged and adhered in place using either Mini Dimensionals or Multipurpose Liquid Glue. 

A piece of Gold Simply Elegant Trim was tied around the bow’s knot and then tied into a bow. The ends of the trim’s bow were quite curly so I just let them do their thing - I quite liked the effect. A sentiment from the Hope and Peace stamp set (currently an On-line Only product) was white heat embossed onto Cherry Cobbler card-stock, fussy cut and added to the card with Mini Dimensionals. Some Cherry Cobbler Festive Pearls were scattered around the sentiment and some gold pearls adhered to the flower centres.

A different sentiment from the same stamp set was stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink onto a Basic White card inner; and a few second generation Crumb Cake hearts were stamped around the sentiment. A couple of individual left over leaves were added near the hearts.  A C6 Basic White envelope was similarly stamped with the Crumb Cake hearts along the left edge of the envelope front.

Christmas with a So Very Merry Fun Fold

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Heart of Christmas Blog Hop.

This week I am showcasing the So Very Merry stamps in a Christmas card. This is an On-line Only Exclusive. I love the stained glass window designs that are brilliant for colouring. The angel image sits within a circle and can be cut out with the new-ish 2 3/8” Circle punch. I have used a fun fold that holds the central image (in this instance, it’s a circle) separate from the card front but sits in place in the card front with the card closed. I thought this image would be perfect for the fun fold. 

And here is the card standing partially open. 

The card has a Thick Basic White card base with Balmy Blue card-stock inside to hold the focal panel. A Basic White card front was cut in 2 diagonally, with the bottom section being dry embossed with the Merry Melody 3D embossing folder. It adds texture in real life but doesn’t show that well in the photos. Both pieces were lightly splattered with a Balmy Blue Stampin’ Write Marker. A thin strip of Silver Foil from the Silver Foil packet (which currently can be found as an online only item) was layered between the 2 front pieces so only a very thin strip is visible.

The angel image from the So Very Merry stamp set was silver heat embossed on Basic White card-stock using Versamark ink, Silver Emboss powder (within the Metallic Emboss Powder set),  the Embossing Accessory kit and a Heat Tool. The bells image was also heat embossed.

The images were coloured with Stampin’ Blends, ie Balmy Blue, Lemon Lolly, Crumb Cake combos and Light Boho Blue, Light Daffodil Delight, Light Smoky Slate, Light Petal Pink and the Color Lifter. Once the angel was coloured it was punched out with the 2 3/8” Circle punch. This was mounted onto a silver foil disc that had been cut with the second largest Stylish Shapes circle die.

The largest Stylish Shape circle die cut a hole through the layers of the card front. The embossed layer was flattened during this process. I will explore adhering the card front after die cutting when I create this card for a second time with the angel in different colours. The coloured angel was adhered with Dimensionals to the circular die cut disc. 

The Balmy Blue card-stock inner was cut a little smaller than the card base at 20cm x 14.4cm and scored at 10cm and 15cm along the long edge. It was folded in half and burnished with a Bone Folder at the 10cm score and then concertinaed back at the 15cm score. The bigger section was adhered flat to the inside back of the card with the concertina section sitting to the right. The focal centre was partially adhered at the top of the concertina section through the die cut centre hole. I hope this doesn’t sound like double dutch. Check out the photo below.

A sentiment from the same stamp set was silver heat embossed around the top of the circular hole. A few Iridescent Basic Pearls were added near the sentiment.  A bow was tied with the Silver Simply Elegant Trim and the Balmy Blue and White Variegated ribbon that had been cut in half lengthwise. It was added with a few Glue Dots.

Here is the open card. A panel of Basic White card-stock was silver heat embossed with a sentiment from the Brightest Glow stamp set. The Blends coloured bells were fussy cut and adhered to this panel in a top right-hand corner.

A C6 Basic White envelope was also silver heat embossed with the bells.
