Art with Heart Colour Creations Showcase - # 13 Crushed Curry

Crushed Curry with Celebrate Sunflowers and Fancy Phrases

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the thirteenth 2020/21 Colour Creations Showcase by members of the Art with Heart Team

This week we are focussing on Crushed Curry, a strong yellow with some depth. Crushed Curry is part of Stampin' Up!'s Regals family of colours. As with all of Stampin' Up!'s colours, products in Crushed Curry span their range, including: Card-stock, Classic Stampin' Ink Pad and Ink Refill; Stampin' Write Marker; Watercolour Pencil, Designer Series Paper (Regals 6x6 Designer Series Paper, etc) and the Playing with Patterns Resin Dots.

As suggested last week, I have created a project with the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set. Crushed Curry is a great colour for sunflowers. Both cards used Crushed Curry in their water-colour backgrounds.

CARD 1: The water-colour background was created using the smooshing technique, that is my Crushed Curry Classic Stampin' ink pad was dabbed onto a piece of acetate and water was misted over with a Stampin' Spritzer. A piece of Fluid 100 Water Colour paper was laid over the ink and then lifted. The water-colour paper was then dabbed back into the ink on areas where I thought I would like some more colour. This water-coloured background was put aside to dry and then was embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder. The background was mounted with a thin mount of Cinnamon Cider card-stock before being popped up on Dimensionals onto the Crushed Curry card-stock base.

The large sunflower and leaves from the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set was stamped onto Shimmery White card-stock with Saddle Brown Stazon ink. Sazon ink was needed as I wanted to water-colour the sunflower and leaves using a Blender Pen. Crushed Curry, Cinnamon Cider and a little So Saffron ink was used to colour the sunflower; with Old Olive and Pear Pizzaz used to colour the leaves. The water-coloured pieces were die cut with the coordinating Sunflower dies.

The Sunflower dies were also used to die cut the gorgeous sunflower overlay out of the delicious Brass foil. The Brass foil that is new to the current Annual Catalogue is such a rich colour and is delightful to work with. Little leaf twigs were also cut from the Brass foil.

Together with a piece of Flowers for Every Season Whisper White Faux Linen Ribbon, the sunflower, leaves and twigs were arranged with the sunflower popped up on Dimensionals and the leaves tucked under. A sentiment from the same stamp set was stamped in Versamark ink on Crushed Curry card-stock and heat embossed with White Stampin' Emboss powder. The sentiment was fussy cut and positioned with Mini Dimensionals. Gilded Gems added the finishing touch.

A small sunflower, which had been similarly coloured to the larger sunflower was adhered to the card inner and another sentiment was stamped in Crushed Curry ink. The Whisper White C6 Envelope was stamped directly with the smaller sunflower in Crushed Curry ink.

CARD 2: The background for this card was created by stamping the large floral spray from the Fancy Phrases stamp set multiple times over a piece of Fluid 100 Water-colour paper with Versamark ink and heat embossed with White Stampin' Emboss powder.  Water was spread over the embossed paper with the mid-sized Water Painter and then Crushed Curry ink was added for a Wet on Wet watercolour with the emboss resist technique. Once dry the water-coloured background was mounted on a piece of Gray Granite card-stock leaving a fine mount. Then this was adhered directly to the Crushed Curry card base.

A frame was cut from Crushed Curry card-stock using the Stitched Rectangle dies. I must admit, I cut a number of frames in different colour card-stocks to help me assess which colour would be best and ended up with the Crushed Curry frame.

The same stamp that was used on the heat embossed water-coloured background was stamped on Whisper White card-stock with Gray Granite ink. The floral spray was coloured with Stampin' Blends, ie Light and Dark Misty Moonlight blends for the flowers with Dark So Saffron for the flower centres; and Light and Dark Mint Macaron blends for the leaves. The floral spray was fussy cut and positioned using Dimensionals.

The sentiment also came from the Fancy Phrases stamp set. It was stamped twice - once with Crushed Curry ink on Whisper White card-stock and another time with Versamark ink on Crushed Curry card-stock and heat embossed with White Emboss powder. Both were fussy cut with "When I count my" on the Whisper White card-stock being cut in two and adhered directly to the card front; and "blessings" on the Crushed Curry card-stock being popped up on Mini Dimensionals.

The card front was finished with a few Wonderful Gems. I did think about adding ribbon or twine and tried a number of different options but in the end decided not to add anything.

The card inner was stamped with the floral spray in Crushed Curry ink; as was the second part of the sentiment. I had an "oops moment". After I had adhered the card inner in place I realised that I hadn't added the second part of the sentiment. I practiced on a piece of scrap paper before stamping directly on to the card inner - and you guessed it, it didn't stamp well, so I needed to add a small label with the sentiment. Making the most of this, I added a small piece of the water-colour background under the label to link to the card front's water-colour. The coordinating Whisper White C6 envelope also was stamped with the floral spray in Crushed Curry ink.

Art with Heart Colour Creations Showcase - #12 Crumb Cake

Crumb Cake with Ornamental Envelopes and Tasteful Touches

Hello. Welcome back to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the 12th 2020/21 Art with Heart Team Colour Creations Showcase. So glad you have called in.

This week we are focusing on a very versatile colour, Crumb Cake.  This colour is a neutral deep faun colour that sits within Stampin' Up!s "Neutrals" collection. As is Stampin' Up!'s way Crumb Cake is found across Stampin' Up!s product range, including: Card-stock, Classic Stampin' Ink Pad and Ink Refill; Stampin' Write Markers; a number of the Designer Series Papers (including the Neutrals 6x6 Designer Series Paper and World of Good Speciality Designer Series Paper). Linen Thread and trims are brilliant with this colour and so many of the embellishments would look amazing with it.

I created two cards for this week's Colour Creations Showcase. Both of them changed from my initial ideas as they developed. Has that every happened to you? As 'life happened' along the way and things delayed the creation process, I ended up photographing later in the day than usual and so the outdoor light had changed. I needed to climb over my moss rocks and get into strange positions so no shadow was cast on the cards. Also, the wind was blowing, so I needed to chase the card or envelope around the garden many times. I hope I was able to brush off all the dirt. At least I was able to laugh at myself as I clamoured over rocks!!!

Crumb Cake Ornamental Envelopes Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin" Up! Demonstrator

With my first card, I was initially going to have a colour scheme of Crumb Cake, Whisper White and Red and was planning to use Stampin' Up!'s Cherry Cobbler. Using the delightful hanging baubles from the Ornamental Envelopes stamp set, I thought I would water-colour the cherry red on Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper so the baubles weren't all a flat colour ... but the water-colour process lightened the Cherry Cobbler Classic Stampin' ink, bringing out a bright pink. I am fascinated with colour - how it is blended and the interplays, so was intrigued with this bright pink. I tossed up starting again and just use Cherry Cobbler card-stock (according to my initial plan), but then decided to go with the flow and use the water-coloured panel.

Crumb Cake Ornamental Envelopes Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin" Up! Demonstrator

Using the Stamparatus (Stampin' Up!'s positioning tool), I stamped the baubles onto the water-coloured piece in Versamark ink and heat embossed it using White Stampin' Emboss powder. The baubles were fussy cut out, as I wanted them trimmed close to the embossed edge.

The twig stamp (from the same stamp set) was stamped twice in Crumb Cake Classic Stampin' ink at the top of the Crumb Cake card front, with a little masking used prior to the second stamping so there was no over stamping where the twigs crossed. The blossom was stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed using the White Stampin' Emboss Powder

The baubles were also stamped twice on the card front using Crumb Cake Classic Stampin' ink. The card front was dry embossed using one of the new Wrapped in Texture embossing folders. Then the card front was adhered to a piece of the Cherry Cobbler water-coloured paper and then to a piece of Cherry Cobbler card-stock, leaving very fine mounts on both.

The fussy cut water-coloured baubles had touches of Cherry Cobbler Classic Stampin' ink added strategically with a Blender Pen. The baubles were added to the card front over the stamped design, 3 with Mini Dimensionals and 2 directly adhered in place.

The "Peace.Joy.Love" sentiment from the Dove of Hope stamp set was stamped on Whisper White card-stock in Cherry Cobbler Classic Stampin' ink. The ends of the sentiment strip were punched with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch and it was then mounted on a water-coloured strip that had been edged with the other part of the punch. This punch enables you to punch 3 different sized strips and has 2 different edge designs. It's a remarkable punch.

The baubles were stamped in Cherry Cobbler Classic Stampin' ink on the Whisper White card inner, which was then mounted on a piece of Cherry Cobbler card-stock, before being adhered in side the Crumb Cake card base. Also, the baubles were stamped on the Whisper White C6 envelope in Crumb Cake Classic Stampin' ink to coordinate the theme throughout the project.

I had intended to use the Ornamental Envelope bundle more but just ran out of time. This bundle (stamp set and coordinating dies) enables you to add coordinating envelope liners, a die cut design on the envelope flap and further envelope stamping. I am looking forward to playing with this bundle - so stay tuned. I'm sure it will turn up in a subsequent blog.

To finish the card, a number of white Elegant Faceted Gems were scattered around. These gems come in 3 colours - clear, pearlescent white and petal pink and are sooo gorgeous.

Crumb Cake Tasteful Touches Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin" Up! Demonstrator

My second card features the delightful Tasteful Touches stamp set and combines other elements. The flowers from the stamp set were stamped in Versamark ink on Crumb Cake card-stock. They were then heat embossed using White Emboss Powder. Some extra white shading was added with a Stampin' Chalk Marker and a little Petal Pink was added at the flowers tips with Light and Dark Petal Pink Blends. It's hard to see in the photo but in real life it does add a touch of pink to tie the flowers in with the background.

Crumb Cake Tasteful Touches Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin" Up! Demonstrator

The background is a water-colour wash on Fluid 100 Water-colour paper using Petal Pink and Crumb Cake Classic Stampin' inks and the medium Water Painter. Prior to laying the water-colour wash the stamp set's leaf spray was stamped twice (diagonally) in Versamark ink and heat embossed with White Emboss Powder to add a subtle emboss resist effect. Once dry, the water-coloured panel was adhered to Petal Pink card-stock. This card front was popped up on a Crumb Cake panel that was adhered directly to a Crumb Cake card-stock base.

Crumb Cake Tasteful Touches Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin" Up! Demonstrator

A Vellum card-stock spray of leaves, a Gold Hoop Embellishment, White ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack and Linen Thread were arranged with 2 flowers, with the flowers being popped up on Dimensionals. I still think it needs something else - what do you think?

Crumb Cake Tasteful Touches Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin" Up! Demonstrator

The sentiment from the same Tasteful Touches stamp set was stamped in Versamark Ink and heat embossed with White Emboss Powder. Fussy cut out, the sentiment was popped in place with Mini Dimensionals. Three Petal Pink Elegant Faceted Gems were added as a finishing touch. I do love adding a touch of sparkle.

Crumb Cake Tasteful Touches Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin" Up! Demonstrator

The Whisper White card-stock inner was stamped in Petal Pink Classic Stampin' ink, as was the Whisper White C6 envelope. It doesn't take much to add a little coordination across the whole project. Its also nice to add a coordinating sentiment inside as well. I usually wait until I am about to give the card away so I can add the most appropriate sentiment.

Crumb Cake Tasteful Touches Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin" Up! Demonstrator

Crumb Cake is such a versatile colour. It can coordinate with many other colours or is just gorgeous with white alone. It can be used for a non-traditional Christmas card, as I have, or  combined with traditional Christmas colours. I think Crumb Cake is delightful with Petal Pink, but the same could be said for many other colours. It is a colour that can be dressed up or dressed down; used with bright and bold designs or in soft and subtle projects. Its a great colour to have in your crafting stash, whether in card-stock, ink or Designer Series Paper.

Heart of Christmas 2020 - August

Art with Heart Team Heart of Christmas 2020 with Poinsettia Wreaths

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the second Heart of Christmas 2020 Showcase.
We are now half way through August and Christmas still seems quite a way off, however, the next few months will disappear quickly, so I really appreciate the Heart of Christmas 2020 Showcase to help me focus on creating in readiness for the festive season. Stampin' Up! have released their August - December 2020 Mini Catalogue with gorgeous products to help us make lovely projects. Leave me a message if you would like a copy of the new Mini Catalogue, if you are in Australia. I'd be delighted to help you.

I've created two projects this month. The two cards feature wreaths with poinsettias. Some aspects of the cards are the same or similar but the cards are different. I hope you like them.

Poinsettia Wreath and Arrange a Wreath Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, South Australia

CARD 1: Long thin cards appear to be "in" at present so I thought I would give one a go. The size aligns with a standard DL envelope. I plan to make an envelope for this card but haven't created it as yet.

The card base is cut out of Thick Whisper White card-stock and the card front is made with a light wooden-like sheet from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP) mounted with a thin boarder of a Brass Foil sheet. I so love this colour of foil - it is rich and delectable.

The card front was embossed at the top and bottom with one of the Meadow Moments embossing folders. The wreath was based on a luscious Gold Hoop embellishment. These hoops are soooo gorgeous. The hoop appears to be hanging on the Forever Greenery Trim Open Weave ribbon that is tied with the Gold trim from the same Combo Pack. The ribbon is tucked to the back of the card front before the card front was adhered directly to the base.

The poinsettias, a few leaves and some berries were fussy cut from one of the sheets of the Flowers for Every Season DSP. Holly leaves were fussy cut from one of the sheets of the Poinsettia Place DSP. This is great for those who aren't into colouring. Larger berries were die cut from Brass Foil using the Poinsettia dies. These elements were arranged with the  poinsettias raised on Mini Dimensionals

A sentiment from In The Pines stamp set was stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed using Gold Emboss powder on a small piece of the same DSP as was used for the card front. A little Wink of Stella was added to the poinsettias to give a little extra shimmer. This isn't picked up by the camera, but is great in real life.

To coordinate with the card front the card inner had thin strips of the Brass foil added at the top and bottom with extra fussy cut holly leaves.

CARD 2: As mentioned, my second card features a wreath (but a different type of wreath) with poinsettias (but different poinsettias). The size of this card is standard rather the long thin style. The card base was the same Thick Whisper White card-stock and the card front was made from the same wood-like DSP from the In Good Taste DSP, that had been embossed with the Pinewood 3D embossing folder and was mounted on Brass Foil with a thin boarder showing. The card front was popped up on Dimensionals to give some dimension and to adhere the front to the card base.

Poinsettia Arrange a Wreath Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, South Australia

The wreath was created using the Wreath Builder dies. In the set there are two wreath dies, one with little twigs and buds the other with leaves. The first was cut out of a Brass Foil sheet while the leaf die cut a Garden Green and an Old Olive card-stock layer.  The Garden Green and Old Olive leaves were sponged with Whisper White Craft ink using Sponge Dauber. Each single wreath was layered one on the other ensuring part of the lower wreaths showed.

Poinsettia Arrange a Wreath Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, South Australia

The poinsettias were cut using the poinsettia die (from the same die set) with two pieces cut from Calypso Coral card-stock for each flower. As you can see there are three flowers. Six tiny flowers were cut from Whisper White card-stock. The poinsettia pieces also were sponged with Whisper White Craft ink and the tiny flowers were daubed with Petal Pink Classic Stampin' Up! ink and the edges with Calypso Coral Classic Stampin' Up! ink

Poinsettia Arrange a Wreath Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, South Australia

The flowers were arranged with the poinsettias adhered with Mini Dimensionals. Two extra brass foil twigs also were added. The sentiment from the Arrange a Wreath stamp set was stamped on a little off-cut of the DSP with Versamark ink and heat embossed with Gold Emboss powder. This was fussy cut and positioned in the centre with Mini Dimensionals

Poinsettia Arrange a Wreath Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, South Australia

The card inner was stamped with part of the wreath from the Arrange a Wreath stamp set in Calypso Coral Classic Stampin' Up! ink and a die cut Brass foil bow from the Wreath Builder dies was added. The same wreath was similarly stamped onto a Whisper White envelope.

Poinsettia Arrange a Wreath Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, South Australia

A bow using the Vanilla Open Weave ribbon and the Gold Twine from the Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack was adhered in place with Mini Glue Dots. Five tiny Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels were added to the centre of each poinsettia and one to the tiny flowers to finish off the wreath.

I love wreaths and the Arrange a Wreath bundle provides so many creative opportunities.

I had fun creating two similar, but different Poinsettia Wreath cards. I hope you like them too.

Art with Heart Colour Creations Showcase - #11 Coastal Cabana

Coastal Cabana with Seaside Notions and Prized Peony

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the 11th Colour Creations Showcase by the Art with Heart Team. So glad you have dropped in. This week we are focusing on a gorgeous colour, Coastal Cabana.  This colour is a bright green aqua colour that sits within Stampin' Up!s "Brights" collection of 10 colours.

Coastal Cabana is found across Stampin' Up!s product range, including: Card-stock, Classic Stampin' Ink Pad and Ink Refill; Watercolour Pencils Assortment 2; Stampin' Write Markers; a number of the Designer Series Papers (Playing with Patterns); Playing with Patterns Combo Pack Ribbons; Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels and Playing with Patterns Resin Dots Embellishments

Coastal Cabana Seaside Notions and Prized Peony card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin Up Demonstrator, South Australia

This week hasn't been my best week as health and other demands have taken their toll. I noticed the impact as I was crafting ... with dropping things, ink smudges, gluing things the wrong way round or undertaking processes out of order which led to further errors. Has this ever happened to you??? Even though I needed to undertake a number of processes multiple times, I still tried to relax into these projects and enjoy crafting. It is so good to be 'mindful', put aside other things for a while and to create.

Coastal Cabana Seaside Notions Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin Up Demonstrator, South Australia

First Project: Given the name of this week's colour, I wanted to create a card with a sea theme. Apart from hero-ing Coastal Cabana, I also wanted to use the lovely Seabed 3D Embossing Folder.

I started with a piece of Whisper White card-stock and laid a variegated layer of Coastal Cabana blending to light Pool Party at the top using a Sponge Roller. Sea weed or sea greenery (can't remember what they are called) was stamped in Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin' ink. I created a mask for the sea weed so the images didn't cross over each other.

Coastal Cabana Seaside Notions Stampin Up card, Andrea Sargent, Independent Stampin Up Demonstrator, South Australia

The sentiment from the Seaside Notions stamp set was stamped in Night of Navy Classic Stampin' ink. Some water droplets as well as some Frost White Shimmer Paint were flicked over the inked card front. Once dry, this card front was trimmed to sit with a narrow mount on a piece of Night of Navy card-stock and was cut into 4 pieces. Then, it was embossed in the Seabed 3D embossing folder - such a gorgeous effect.

The embossed card front pieces were adhered to the Night of Navy card-stock with Dimensionals (do make sure you place the pieces in the right order 😞 - you can probably guess why I am saying that). A piece of Coastal Cabana Playing with Patterns ribbon was tied around the card front in a bow. The card front was adhered directly to a Coastal Cabana card-stock card base.

The seahorses from the Seaside Notions stamp set were stamped in Versamark ink on Shimmery White card-stock and heat embossed with Silver Stampin' Emboss powder. After being water coloured with Night of Navy and Pool Party Classic Stampin' inks using a Blender Pen, the sea horses were fussy cut and a layer of Shimmery Crystal Effects covered the sea horses. Once the Crystal Effects dried, they were adhered in place with Mini Dimensionals. A few Blue Adhesive Backed Gems were added as a finishing touch.

The Whisper White card-stock inner and Whisper White C6 Medium envelope were both stamped with the sea house in Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin' ink.

Second Project: With the second card design, I thought I would stretch myself out of my comfort zone and work with a different colour combination that had been posted on Pinterest using Coastal Cabana, Gorgeous Grape and Sahara Sand. I usually am more comfortable with soft or muted colours and if I use bright colours it would be as a highlight or small touch.

I started by stamping 3 peonies from the Prized Peony stamp set in Versamark ink and heat embossed them with White Stampin' Emboss powder. The flowers were coloured with Coastal Cabana and Gorgeous Grape Water-colour pencils and softened with a Blender Pen. Not wanting a wider white boarder around the flowers, they were fussy cut, trimming near to the white embossed edge.

A Whisper White card front was adhered directly to the Coastal Cabana card-stock card base. The centre panel was cut from a piece of Coastal Cabana coloured Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the Playing with Patterns DSP. A piece of Vellum card-stock was cut a tiny bit smaller to allow a border of the DSP to show. Both pieces were edged on the lower edge with the scalloped die from the Peony dies. The vellum was embossed with one of the Meadows Moments embossing folders. The vellum was adhered directly to the DSP and then the panel was adhered in place with Dimensionals.

To bring in the Sahara Sand colour and tie to the Gorgeous Grape flower, leaves from the Prized Peony stamp set were stamped in Sahara Sand Classic Stampin' ink onto a piece of Purple Posy striped DSP from the Playing with Patterns DSP. They were fussy cut. The flowers and leaves were arranged with soft bows in White ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo pack and Linen Thread. A "Happy Birthday" sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set was stamped in Bermuda Bay Classic Stampin' ink on to a label punched with the Everyday Label punch, which was positioned with Dimensionals.  I added a few pieces of Vellum leaves that were nearby (which had been cut for a previous project from the Forever Flourishing dies). Three clear Elegant Faceted Gems provided the finishing touch.

The Whisper White card inner and the Whisper White C6 Medium envelope were both stamped with the peony in second generation Coastal Cabana Classic Stampin' ink.
