Old Olive with a Nature’s Prints Wreath

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a muted green called Old Olive. Old Olive is part of the Regals Colour Family and as the name suggests is a olive green colour. This colour is lovely when used for leaves, trees, etc and works with so many colours. 

Old Olive is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Stampin' Blends Combo; Watercolor Pencils; Regals Designer Series Paper as well as Happy Forest Friends, Design A Daydream, Artfully Composed, Gingerbread & Peppermint and Beauty of the Earth DSPs; plus Old Olive & Sahara Sand Twill Ribbon Combo Pack, Glitter Washi Four Pack and Faux Sea Glass Shapes. That’s a solid list demonstrating the colour's versatility.

Old Olive card-stock, ink, Stampin' Write Marker and Twill Ribbon have been used in this project plus a range of non-Old Olive bits and pieces. Here is my card:

I have created another Christmas card - as I am running low on cards and still a few more to send. Two wreaths were cut from Shimmery White card-stock using the wreath die from the Natural Prints dies. A number of smaller stems were also die cut. They were all water-coloured with Old Olive Classic Stampin’ ink, ensuring variation of colour. One wreath was coloured much lighter. All the pieces were put aside to dry naturally.

The flower from the Nature’s Prints stamp set was stamped a number of times and gold heat embossed on Shimmery White card-stock, using Versamark ink, Gold Emboss Powder and a Heat Tool. The flower was water-coloured. You may not easily guess the colour that was used - its Cherry Cobbler!  It has dried with a more orange tinge similar to Calypso Coral. I promise its not Calypso Coral but Cherry Cobbler. Once dry, the flowers were fussy cut.

A Basic White card-stock panel was embossed with the pine EF from the Wintry 3D Embossing Folder set. The same size panel was cut from Old Olive card-stock and they were layered onto a Thick Basic White card base. The various pieces of foliage and flowers were arranged. The lighter wreath was positioned first, then the 2nd wreath. Some of the stems were layered on top. Three of the flowers were arranged to one side and the other 2 flowers were tucked between foliage layers. 

A bow was tied with Old Olive Twill Ribbon that had been cut in half lengthwise and a second bow was tied with Gold Elegant Trim. They were tucked between the flowers. Gold Holy Leaves were added here and there and 2 Flat Jingle Bell Trinkets were adhered under the floral arrangement. A sentiment from the Brightest Glow stamp set was stamped in Old Olive ink on Shimmery White card-stock and fussy cut, before being adhered with Mini Dimensionals.

The inside of the card also layered Basic White card-stock over Old Olive card-stock. A gold embossed flower and a remaining water-coloured stem were added to link the theme of the card front to the inside. A C6 Basic White envelope was gold heat embossed using the flower stamp. Just a simple touch to tie the envelope to the card it will carry.

Night of Navy with Sweet Candy Canes and Pretty Medallion

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a deep navy blue called Night of Navy. Night of Navy is part of the Neutrals Colour Family and is a beautiful colour that works with so many colours. This colour is lovely when used for dark skies or waters and so so much more. I love Night of Navy and at times have used it instead of black. 

Night of Navy is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Stampin' Blends Combo; Watercolor Pencils; Soft Pastels Assortment; Neutrals Designer Series Paper as well as Fitting Florets, Abstract Beauty, Beauty of the Earth, Storybook Gnomes, Lovely Linen, Sweet Symmetry, Brushstroke, Sun Prints, Hues of Happiness, Hey Sports Fan and Waves of the Ocean DSPs; Robot Buddies Kids and Light The Candles Card Kits; Love Santa Tag Kit; Ombre Specialty Paper, Abstract Beauty Ephemera Pack; plus Resin Stars, Fan Bakers Twine, Rhinestone Waves Basic Jewels and Solid Faceted Gems. Wow, that is quite a list demonstrating the colour's amazing versatility.

Night of Navy card-stock, ink, Stampin' Write Marker and Stampin' Blends Combo have been used in this project plus a range of non-Night of Navy bits and pieces. Here is my first card:

CARD 1:  

Night of Navy is a dark colour, however, I used a wet on wet water-colour technique and purposely endeavoured to create a light water-colour wash that would show the colour's base colour(s). Given the collation of elements centred over the background wash it is hard to see the beautiful effect of the water-colour purple and blue patches. The water-colour wash was created on a panel of Fluid 100 Watercolor paper using only Night of Navy Classic Stampin' ink and the large flat Water Painter. This panel was mounted onto a slightly larger piece of Night of Navy card-stock. A panel of Basic White card-stock was embossed with the snowflake embossing folder with Night of Navy splatters added using a Stampin Write Marker before it was added to the Night of Navy card base.

A couple of candy canes from the Sweet Candy Cane stamp set were stamped onto a piece of Basic White card-stock. Both were coloured with the Light Fresh Freesia Blend and one of them also had some Night of Navy Blend added to make the focal candy cane a darker navy on one edge. Must admit my NoN ink pad could do with a re-inking.

Dies from the Christmas Banners dies were used to cut some foliage out of either Silver foil or Basic White card-stock. Small snowflakes were cut using the Frosted Flurry dies from White Glimmer paper (Real Red & White Glimmer Paper) and the lighter end of the Tahitian Tide Glimmer Paper (2022-2024 In Colour Glimmer Paper). It may seem a strange combination but earlier in the week I wasn't well and needed a doze during the day. As I woke, I seemed to be dreaming of creating a project using the Sweet Candy Cane bundle with some foliage and  snowflakes for this week's project. My card started there. A Basic White label was cut using the Label Me Lovely Punch. 

All the pieces were arranged together with a Wonderful Snowflake and adhered with Dimensionals, Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Glue Dots. A bow was tied with White Crinkled Seam Binding ribbon and the Silver Simply Elegant Trim. A sentiment from the stamp set was white heat embossed on Night of Navy card-stock using Versamark, White Emboss Powder (Basics Stampin' Emboss Powders) and a Heat Tool. 2021-2023 in Colour Opal Rounds (Fresh Freesia) added that finishing touch.

The second stamped and coloured candy cane was added to a Basic White card-stock card centre with a remaining Tahitian Tide Glimmer snowflake. Another sentiment was stamped in Night of Navy ink. A C6 Basic White envelope was stamped with a couple of candy canes in Night of Navy ink so it coordinated with the card it will carry.

CARD 2:

I have had electricians and other trades people around all week, with work taking longer than  estimated and power outages at relevant times. All this absorbed time and which almost ran out, leaving minimal time to finish my second card. 

One of my ideas for a Christmas card was to use the Pretty Medallion stamp as a larger bauble. Having water-coloured with Night of Navy in the previous card I decided to continue the colour combo and combine blending of purples with blues, especially Night of Navy. I started with Balmy Blue card-stock and blended Balmy Blue and Fresh Freesia around a square piece of card-stock. I knew the impact would be minor but wanted to start softly. I then blended Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape and Rich Razzelberry for a purple tinge before finishing with Night of Navy blending. The Pretty Medallion stamp was Silver heat embossed. As the medallion turned to silver under the Heat Tool I wondered why it had taken be so long to ink this gorgeous stamp. A splattering of water and White Craft ink was added over the panel.

The heat embossed and splattered panel was mounted to a slightly larger piece of Balmy Blue card-stock before being mounted to a Night of Navy card base. A bauble topper and some tiny lights were die cut using dies from the Spruced Up Outline dies in Silver foil. The final touch was the addition of numerous small Rhinestone Basic Jewels to key points of the medallion. There was no time for finishing the card inner and custom made envelope. That will happen in the next few days.

Mossy Meadows with Leaves of Holly Fancy Fold

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a deep muted green called Mossy Meadows. Mossy Meadows is part of the Neutrals Colour Family and is a strong and dark olive green colour that can coordinate with many other colours. This colour is lovely when used for leaves, trees and so many other images. 

Mossy Meadow is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Stampin' Blends Combo; Soft Pastels Assortment; Neutrals Designer Series Paper as well as Boughs of Holly, Rustic Harvest, Awash in Beauty, Happy Forest Friends and Hues of Happiness  DSPs; A Million Thanks Kit; and Solid Faceted Gems. That is quite a list demonstrating the colour's versatility.

My card uses Mossy Meadow card-stock, ink, Stampin' Write Marker and Boughs of Holly DSP plus a range of non-Mossy Meadow bits and pieces. While Mossy Meadow is a dark-ish colour, using it with techniques like partial blending and other colours means the project doesn’t need to be dark & somber. Here is my card:

For me, holly leaves are a part of Christmas and as I was pondering what I would create using Stampin’ Up!s Mossy Meadow, the Leaves of Holly bundle seemed a great choice as it would also add to my Christmas card stash. I thought I had created sufficient Christmas cards, but I recently more accurately calculated my needs and realised more cards were required. There may be extra Christmas cards over the next couple of weeks of blog hops. Let’s see.

I decided to use one of the packets of Designer Series Papers that include Mossy Meadow in their colour combos - the Boughs of Holly DSP seemed the obvious choice. I used 2 designs from this DSP - a coordinating neutral abstract design that was added to the top section of the card design and a mottled deep green design that was added behind the large label’s holly leaves. As I considered the design, I thought of using a simple fancy fold - one that reminds me of a barn door. I’m not sure what it is called.

After trimming the top section from the front of the card, a Basic White card-stock panel was added inside the card to the base. A strip of the neutral design of the DSP was adhered over the top section of the Basic White panel and a thin strip of Brushed Bronze foil from the Brushed Metallic foil card-stock was added over the seam. An extra piece of Basic White card-stock was stamped along the top edge with holly leaves from the Leaves of Holly stamp set using Mossy Meadow and a dabbing of Evening Evergreen Classic inks. A splattering of Mossy Meadow was also added with a Stampin’ Write Marker. 

Holly leaves were also stamped on an extra piece of Basic White card-stock and then die cut using the coordinating dies from the Holly Berry dies. Another fine strip of Bronze Foil was layered over the top edge. Detailed holly leaves were also die cut from Basic White card-stock. These detailed die cut leaves were partially coloured with a Blending Brush using Mossy Meadow ink. I really love the effect created. The larger holly leaf label die was used with the copper Brushed Metallic foil card-stock to cut the central label. The coordinating dies include a die to cut a backing for the label’s holly leaves. This was cut from the dark green DSP design that includes a significant amount of Mossy Meadow. The stamped and blended holly leaves were layered together.

The Bronze label was centred on the front layer using Dimensionals and the stamped and blended holly leaves were arranged, with one leaf sitting on the back section. A sentiment from the same stamp set was white heat embossed using Versamark ink, White Emboss Powder and a Heat Tool. It was die cut with the smaller label die. A small strip of Cherry Cobbler card-stock was layered underneath before the sentiment was added with Dimensionals. A bow of White Glittered Organdy ribbon was tucked under the edge of the sentiment label using Glue Dots. A number of Cherry Red Adhesive-Backed Seasonal Sequins were sprinkled around to give a touch of complementary colour and sparkle.

To further decorate the inner panel that will be used for the personal message, a second stamped and blended holly leaf was added as well as some extra red sequins. A Basic White C6 envelope was also decorated with the final holly leaf.

Heart of Christmas Blog Hop: Spruced Up

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the last Art with Heart Team Heart of Christmas Blog Hop for 2022. Can you believe there is less than a month to Christmas? Eek

So glad you are joining us for our last 2022 Heart of Christmas Blog Hop. I have enjoyed creating cards to share using the Spruced Up Christmas bundle. Here are my cards:

 

The Spruced Up bundle is so gorgeous. I have so many ideas of designs, but time only enabled me to create two cards for this Blog Hop.

CARD 1:

I recently saw Emma Goddard, a UK Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and past Artisan, create a card that had a background with Granny Apple Green ink blending onto a Parakeet Party piece of card-stock. As I was musing on a design for a card for this Blog Hop I remembered Emma's background and thought it would go well with the Spruced Up bundle. That is where I started. 

A piece of Parakeet Party card-stock had Granny Apple Green ink blending added around the edges with the base being a slightly heavier application. Deciding I wanted it a little darker, I added some Evening Evergreen Classic Stampin' ink as well. The panel was dry embossed with the pine embossing folder from the Wintry 3D set of folders. A splattering of water was added over the panel - I love this effect. Then some White Craft ink was also splattered over the panel. The panel was put aside to allow the splattering to dry properly.

The larger tree from the Spruced Up stamp set was inked with Soft Sea Foam ink and then some Granny Apple Green and Evening Evergreen inks were added to the stamp with Blending Brushes. It was stamped onto Very Vanilla card-stock. The smaller tree was stamped using Soft Sea Foam and Granny Apple Green inks. The stamped trees were cut with coordinating dies from the Spruced Up Outines dies. These tree dies also cut trees in Evening Evergreen, Very Vanilla and Gold Glimmer Speciality paper. I love the way the die cuts both the tree and an outline in one go. The two pieces can be used together or separately, depending on your desired design. It is hard to pick up all the glimmer of the Speciality Paper with the camera. 

The background darker edges were trimmed off before adhering the background panel to a Thick Very Vanilla card-base. I forgot to add some split Gold & Vanilla Satin-Edged ribbon before adhering the background to the base, so I needed to tuck the ribbon around the edges with a couple of Glue Dots. Whew! A bow was tied separately and adhered over the ribbon after the various pieces of the Spruced Up forest were arranged and adhered with either Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Mini Dimensionals. A sentiment from the Hope and Peace stamp set was white heat embossed using Versamark ink, White Emboss Powder and a Heat Tool. It was then fussy cut and added with Mini Dimensionals. A number of Iridescent Rhinestone Basic Jewels added extra shimmer.

A Very Vanilla card-stock panel was stamped with another sentiment, this time from the Brightest Glow stamp set was stamped in Evening Evergreen ink and a remaining stamped tree and outline were adhered to a corner. Another outline piece was adhered onto the front of a Very Vanilla C6 envelope.

CARD 2:

I had a number of trees and tree outlines left over from my earlier creating so also created a simpler more mono-tone card.

A piece of Basic White card-stock had some Pool Party ink blending added to the top of the panel. Both water splattering and White Craft ink splattering was added. Looking at the card as I write this blog, I wonder if it should have had some dry embossing added to the background panel. Perhaps the snowflake embossing folder from the Wintry 3D EF pack would have been good. What do you think?

A Basic White card-stock stitched circle die cut, having been cut using the largest circle from the Stylish Shapes dies, was on my work table. It was popped up on Dimensionals and a Wonderful Snowflake was adhered on top. Trees were stamped in Pool Party/Evening Evergreen inks and light Pool Party ink, before being die cut with coordinating dies. 

A small Evening Evergreen Glimmer tree and a larger tree outline of White Glimmer paper (from the Real Red and White Glimmer Paper bundle) were arranged with the two stamped trees. A left over sentiment from the previous card was fussy cut, removing a couple of the sentiment’s original words. I love the way using part of a sentiment provides more options. Some white sequins from the Adhesive-Backed Seasonal Sequins add some extra sparkle.

A smaller stamped tree and a white glimmer tree outline were added to a Basic White card-stock panel with a sentiment from the Brightest Glow stamp set, stamped in Evening Evergreen ink. A larger tree was stamped on the front of a Basic White C6 Envelope to bring some coordination with the card's design.

I have numerous die cut trees remaining, so may create similar but different cards to ensure the die cuts don't go to waste. It will also help to build my card stash. Thank you for dropping in for our last Heart of Christmas Blog Hop for 2022.
