Flirty Flamingo with Reindeer Fun

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a beautiful pink called Flirty Flamingo.  Flirty Flamingo is part of the Brights Colour Family and is a strong pink that can coordinate with many colours, including greys, greens and many others. It would be wonderful for flowers, berries …  and anything needing a rich mid-pink.

Flirty Flamingo is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads, ink spots & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Stampin’ Blends Combo; Water-color Pencils (Assortment 2), Brights Designer Series Paper as well as a number of other products, including numerous kits and some embellishments. 

This project has incorporated Flirty Flamingo as Classic Stampin' ink, card-stock, Stampin' Write Marker and Stampin Blends.

This card changed completely from the idea I had in mind when I started to create, however, I do love this happy little reindeer with the Flirty Flamingo harness.

I started by creating a water-coloured background using Flirty Flamingo Classic Stampin’ ink, a Forever Plaid 3D Embossing Folder and a Stampin’ Mister. You start by dabbing the ink pad lightly onto the embossing folder and then misting water over the embossing folder and rolling it a little to move the colour into the recessed sections. Some Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper is laid inside the folder and the folder is run through a Cut & Emboss Machine. I have been experimenting to get different results and I love it. One tip, keep a paper towel at hand when the folder is run through the machine as diluted ink can shoot out of the machine as the embossing folder pops out of the machine. It’s easily cleaned.

The prancing reindeer from the Reindeer Fun stamp set was stamped onto Basic White card-stock with Early Expresso ink. This delightful image was coloured with Crumb Cake Blends Combo and the Colour Lifter. The image was die cut with the coordinating die from the Reindeer Fun dies. The spruce circular die cut was cut from a square piece of Basic White card-stock. Foliage was die cut from Basic White card-stock using Encircled In Nature sprig dies. The spruce was lightly coloured with Granny Apple Green ink and the flower spray was coloured with Flirty Flamingo - both applied with Blending Brushes.

The oh so gorgeous Iridescent Striped Ribbon was coloured with a Light Flirty Flamingo Blend and cut in half lengthwise and tied into a bow and added to the cut out circle with Glue Dots. A sentiment from the Reindeer Fun stamps was white heat embossed onto Flirty Flamingo card-stock. A number of White Loose Snowflakes were scattered around and adhered in place with a small dot of Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

The card inner was created with Basic White card-stock that was mounted onto a slightly larger piece of Flirty Flamingo card-stock. A second Blends coloured Reindeer was added with a few extra White Snowflakes.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a pink called Flirty Flamingo. Flirty Flamingo is one of the Brights Colour Family and is a mid pink. This colour would be lovely for flowers, “all pinky things,  and oh so much more ….

Flirty Flamingo is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads, ink spot & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Stampin' Blends Combo; Watercolor Pencils; Soft Pastels; Brights Designer Series Paper as well as Stargazing, Beary Christmas, Les Shoppes, Hello, Irrestible, Merry, Bold & Bright DSP; Beary Christmas Memories & More cards & envelopes; Beary Christmas Memories & More cards; Festive Tags kit, Kindness Cards Kit, Confetti Birthday Kit, Love This Memory Notebook kit; plus Loose Frosted Dots and Loose Daisy embellishments.

Flirty Flamingo ink, card-stock, Stampin’ Write Marker, Stampin’ Blends Combo and Loose Frosted Dots have been used in the creation of this project plus a range of non-Flirty Flamingo bits and pieces.

I have two cards planned for this blog but unexpected happenings stole time and I am only part way through the second card. I have the water-colour background finished but yet to finish the rest of the creating process.  I will show you the background below and hopefully finish the card in the next few days.

Christmas Card

I had thought of my Christmas card being a bonus as I am still desperate to build my Christmas card stash and my key card was to be the Constellation card, but I haven’t been feeling fantastic so yesterday thought I would relax with some colouring and fussy cutting which led me to I create the Christmas card first.

The Basic White card-stock background was embossed with the Merry Melody 3D embossing folder. This was mounted to a Flirty Flamingo card base. As I was making a wreath card a Basic White circular disc was cut using a Deckled Circle die. It was added with Dimensionals to the centre of the card base.

The berry spray stamp from the Magical Meadow stamp set was stamped multiple times both in Flirty Flamingo and Old Olive Classic Stampin’ inks. Half of the Old Olive images were stamped off to give some variety of the colour. Then the berries were further coloured with the Flirty Flamingo Blends combo and some highlights were added with a White Watercolor pencil. The Old Olive images had a little Shaded Spruce and Old Olive added via Stampin’ Blends. It may be hard to discern the added dimension to the stamped images but I think the extra colouring was worth the effort. All the images were fussy cut. Yes, they could have been cut with the coordinating dies, but as mentioned, I needed to sit and as I was going to be fussy cutting the Flirty Flamingo berries away from the leaves I thought I would fussy cut it all. (I know, I can hear “you have to be kidding”.) As I was fussy cutting the berries, I stuck them onto the Old Olive images, with the lower berry being adhered directly and the upper two berries added with a Mini Dimensional each.

The berry sprays were arranged around the deckled circle. While you don’t see that there is a circular label, it makes it so much easier to lay the pieces into a round wreath. Pine twigs were cut from Silver Foil using one of the Magical Meadow dies. I had a piece of Gray Granite card-stock that I had lightly covered with Shimmery Embossing Paste. It had been left over from creating Monday’s projects, so I cut a few berry sprays using another die from the same die set. This time all the wreath pieces were adhered with Glue Dots - it was so easy and no sticky mess.

I had thought an adding a separate sentiment but decided it would be nicer to stamp directly into the centre - a big mistake!!! I didn’t realise my Gray Granite ink pad needed re-inking so was devastated when the sentiment didn’t stamp clearly. I cut a smaller Basic White deckled circle and silver Heat embossed it with the sentiment before adhering the disc into the centre of the wreath. There is always a way to overcome a mistake.  A few Flirty Flamingo splatters were added with a Stampin’ Write Marker. White Iridescent Ribbon was cut into 3 lengthwise with one piece being folded into a double bow. A piece of Silver Elegant Trim was tied into a bow around the ribbon bow. This was tucked under part of the wreath. Flirty Flamingo Loose Frosted Gems were scattered around to add extra sparkle.

A Basic White card inner was stamped along one edge with the berry spray in Flirty Flamingo ink. A thin strip of Silver Foil was added over the stamping to the edge. While I love making coordinating envelopes, being time poor at present I stamped a 6”x6” square envelope that I already had, with the same berry stamp but this time in Old Olive ink.

Constellation Card

As promised, here is the water-coloured background created with Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, Blackberry Bliss and Night of Navy inks. As mentioned on Monday, I was inspired to give this technique a go after watching Kaitlyn Zumbach, a Stampin’ Up! designer, demonstrate “how to” during her guest spot in The Crafty Carrot Co’s September series. I started with Flirty Flamingo ink, Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and the wide brush Water Painter. Melon Mambo, Blackberry Bliss and Night of Navy inks were also added. Doesn’t the added White Craft ink splatters look like sparkling stars. I needed to add some Wink of Stella as well to give it some real sparkle. (The sparkle doesn’t show in the photo.)

Hopefully it won’t be too long before I will be able to add the finished card.

Flirty Flamingo with Delicate Dahlias

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a bright pink called Flirty Flamingo. Flirty Flamingo is part of the Brights Colour Family and is a wonderful colour for flowers and all sorts of pink things. It is a pretty colour.  Flirty Flamingo is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads, re-inkers & Classic Stampin' Spots); Stampin' Write Markers; Watercolor Pencils; the Brights, Sweet Symmetry and Pattern Party Designer Series Papers; as well as the Flirty Flamingo Metallic Ribbon, From the Heart Faceted Gems & Sequins for Everything.

For me there was not difficulty in coming up with ideas for this week's project, but rather in choosing which concept I would work on. I was inspired by a beautiful bunch of flowers that were different shades of Flirty Flamingo pink with some deep cherry red roses. However, I thought I would work in reverse with a Flirty Flamingo/Cherry Cobbler water-colour background and the flowers outlined in gold heat embossing with some shading in grey, ie Gray Granite. I love a pink and grey colour scheme. The card below has used Flirty Flamingo card-stock, Classic ink and the Flirty Flamingo Metallic Ribbon, plus a range of other bits and pieces.

I started by creating a water colour background using Flirty Flamingo, Cherry Cobbler and a little Gray Granite Classic Stampin' ink on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. I used a wet on wet water colour technique and rather than leaving the edges in white I very lightly took Flirty Flamingo to the edges. When it was almost dry I ran the coloured panel through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder.

The dahlia flowers from the gorgeous Delicate Dahlias stamp set were stamped in Versamark Ink on to Basic White Card-stock and heat embossed with Gold Metallic Emboss Powder and a Heat Gun. I specifically chose these gorgeous Dahlias for this project as you are able to acquire this stamp set for free with the purchase of $180 worth of Stampin' Up! products during Sale-a-bration. This offer finishes in a little over a week so if you are wanting this stamp set - time is running out. 

I coloured the flowers with Stampin' Blends, using the Gray Granite Blends Combo. I usually try to use a third & different colour as well but I only wanted light shading. As such, the Colour Lifter was key to blend out edges of grey and to soften the colouring.

The flowers were fussy cut with my trusty Stampin' Snips. They were added to the background panel with Dimensionals leaving room for the sentiment. Strips of Gold Foil from the Brushed Metallic Card-stock pack were added to the longer edges of the water-coloured background panel together with strips of Flirty Flamingo card-stock. This background panel was adhered directly to a card base of Thick Basic White card-stock. 

Some of the Flirty Flamingo Metallic Ribbon was folded in half and added across the centre of the card. A sentiment from the same stamp set was gold heat embossed on Basic White card-stock. Trimmed and then mounted on a slightly larger off-cut of Flirty Flamingo card-stock. This label was positioned with Dimensionals. A piece of the Gold Trim from the Simply Elegant Trim pack was tied in a bow around the folded end of the ribbon and some clear Wonderful Gems added for that finishing touch.

The card inner was decorated with an off-cut of the water-coloured & embossed panel and fine strips of Gold Brushed Metallic paper and Flirty Flamingo card-stock. I had 2 little flowers remaining that weren't needed for the front design so they were perfect to add inside the card. I ran out of time to decorate a C6 Basic White envelope so that will be a task for another day.

I love playing with water-colour and embossing in its various forms. While I loved creating this to share, I'm not 100% sold on the final effect. Do you have some ideas of what I could do to give it a little more oomph?

Flirty Flamingo with Christmas Gleaming

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Colour Creations Showcase by members of Stampin' Up!'s Art with Heart Team.

This week we are focussing on Flirty Flamingo, a pretty bright pink. It sits within Stampin' Up!'s Brights colour family. Flirty Flamingo can be found in Stampin' Up!s cardstock, Classic inks, Stampin' Write Markers, Watercolour Pencils, Stampin' Blends, some Designer Series Papers and sparkly Whale of a Time sequins. 

I had hoped to present two cards to you in this blog, but at the time of going live there will be only one card. The other is in pieces on my desk. It needs something else and inspiration hadn't arrived at the time of writing the blog. I'm hoping that I will be able to upload the 2nd card tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

I've seen a couple of lovely sponged backgrounds of late and was reminded how beautiful this technique can be, so I decided to use the technique for one of my cards. I've also been reminded of how water reactive Stampin' Up!s Classic inks are - more of this in a later blog, but for this background splatters of water were added to give the background more character. Check out the various size splatters on this close-up.

To create by background, I used sponges to apply Petal Pink, Flirty Flamingo, Rich Razzleberry, Blackberry Bliss and a touch of Night of Navy Classic ink on Whisper White card-stock to create this graded colour play. It is important when blending from one colour to the another to overlap the two colours so that there is an area where the colours mix. I usually apply one colour, then the second colour with an overlapped area and then go over the mixed area again with the first colour. This seems to soften the blending. We all apply techniques with our own twist - this is my approach.

After finishing my colour blending, I spritzed water over the background and then left the water to interact with the ink. Once dry, I sprinkled some Wink of Stella over the card background. In real life the background looks shimmery - but it isn't picked up in my photos. I mounted this card front with a very fine boarder of Whisper White card-stock. 

The baubles from the Christmas Gleaming stamp set were stamped in Versamark ink on Whisper White card-stock and then heat embossed using Gold Emboss powder. They were coloured using the same range of inks as the background (apart from Blackberry Bliss and Night of Navy). A sentiment from the same set was similarly heat embossed. The embossing itself resisted the application of colour, and so the gold embossing shines through.

The baubles and sentiment were arranged. That sounds so simple, but ... I spent ages on the arrangement. Initially, I thought three baubles; hmm was it a bit sparse? So added another two - was it too crowded???? Took two off; hmm still not right. They were moved up and down; spread over the card base and then grouped together; the order was changed and then changed again; plus all sorts of combinations of the above. Must admit I'm still not 100% happy and am wondering whether it would have been better with White embossing and or lighter colouring on the baubles. What do you think?

The Whisper White card inner and a Whisper White C6 Envelope were stamped with baubles in Flirty Flamingo Classic ink.

To finish off the card front, Golden Twine from the Forest Greenery Trim Combo pack was laid from the top of each bauble to the top of the card front. All the threads were then adhered to the back with Tear n' Tape. Little bows were adhered in place with Glue Dots. The card front  was then adhered onto the Flirty Flamingo card-stock base. Three Wonderful Gems were added to complete the card. The gems are wonderful - they have bits of gold within.
