Gray Granite with Yuletide Village

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a beautiful mid-grey colour called Gray Granite.  Gray Granite is part of the Neutrals Colour Family and is a warm grey that can coordinate with many colours, including yellows, reds, other neutrals, etc and it would be wonderful for wood, woodgrain, buildings …  and anything needing a mid-warm grey.

Gray Granite is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Stampin’ Blends Combo; Neutrals Designer Series Paper as well as Nests of Winter, Lily Pond Lane, Country Woods & Otterly Adorable DSPs, Season of Elegance Speciality DSP, Autumn to Remember Scrapbooking Kit, Layered Landscapes Kit, Bakers Twine Essentials Pack, Adhesive Backed Dappled Dots, Riverside Irregular Pearls and a number of other products. 

This project has incorporated Gray Granite as Classic Stampin' ink, card-stock, Stampin' Write Marker, Stampin’ Blends and Season of Elegance Speciality Designer Series Paper.

I do love this colour. The slight fawn-ish tinge gives Gray Granite a lovely warm tinge. As I am still in card-making mode I was thinking how i could showcase this colour in a Christmas card and saw the Yuletide Village stamps on my work table. I also had a gold embossed little church remaining from a previous project so I started by colouring the church with Stampin’ Blends, using the Gray Granite combo. To incorporate traditional christmas colours, the church door was coloured with the Real Red combo; a little Light Lemon lolly was added to the windows to give a sense of the lights on inside and the wreath on the church tower was coloured with the Old Olive combo. Some highlights and blending were added with the Color Lifter.

The Yuletide Village stamp set is a stand alone set, so the church image was fussy cut and an extra layer of ground snow was added with a torn die cut circle. In reference to the die cut part-circle, to create the focal section a piece of Thick Basic White card-stock was folded and a larger circle die from the Spotlight in Nature dies was used to cut a part circle. Some of the “B” side of the Season of Elegance Speciality DSP was also cut with the same die and this piece was adhered to the outside of the folded panel. Some White Craft ink was blended over to lighten some of the panel. A card base was created with a piece of Gray Granite card-stock. A background panel was cut from Basic White card-stock and it was embossed with the Birchwood 3D Embossing Folder.

The bare trees were die cut from some of the Graceful Greenery Vellum. Holly was Gold heat embossed on Basic White card-stock using a stamp from the Sentimental Wishes stamp set. The twiggy berries were cut from Gold Foil using a die from the Changing Leaves dies.

The sentiment came from the Peaceful Season stamp set and it was white heat embossed using the WOW Embossing Powders onto Real Red card-stock. A double bow tied with Gold Twisted Thread was tucked under the sentiment and adhered with a Glue Dot. The final touch was the addition of a number of Adhesive-backed Metallic Gems.

Sentiments, also from the Peaceful Season Stamp set, were gold heat embossed within the folded part-circle. Some “off cuts” left over from the Blends coloured holly were adhered both near the sentiments and in the inner section of the card. Never throw away off cuts till you have finished the project. 

A C6 Basic White envelope was gold heat embossed with the holly from the Sentimental Wishes stamp set.

Gray Granite with Joy of NOEL & Framing Foliage

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a mid warm grey called Gray Granite. Gray Granite is one of the Neutrals Colour Family and is a grey with a touch of brown. This colour is lovely neutral that coordinates with so many colours. I do love pink and grey - as you can see in both of my cards for this blog hop.

Gray Granite is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Marker; Stampin’ Blends Combo; Neutrals Designer Series Paper as well as Earthen Elegance DSP, Colourful Kaleidoscope kit and Sentimental Rose All-inclusive Kit & Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack. 

Gray Granite card-stock, ink and Baker’s Twine Essentials pack have been used in the creation of these projects plus a range of non-Gray Granite bits and pieces.

My first card features Gray Granite with a little Petal Pink and touches of Soft Sea Foam. The card base and background use Gray Granite card-stock. The background was stamped with the larger Christmas arrangement from the Joy of Noel set with Versamark Ink and White Emboss Powder and a Heat Gun. A little White Watercolour Pencil lightly coloured the image. The background panel was cut down using the largest Deckled Rectangle die. A little White Craft ink was blended over the edges. This panel was directly mounted onto a slightly larger piece of Basic White card-stock.

Using the Joy of Noel stamps, the NOEL was stamped in Petal Pink Classic Stampin’ ink and “Joyous” in Gray Granite ink.  The curved Christmas arrangement was stamped in 2nd generation Gray Granite ink and then coloured with Gray Granite, Petal Pink, Calypso Coral and Soft Sea Foam Stampin’ Blends Combos. The NOEL was backed with Foam Adhesive sheet and cut out with a coordinating die from the Joy of Noel dies. The other part of the sentiment and the coloured arrangement were both fussy cut - the latter only because I was sitting with a dog on my lap so couldn’t get up to die cut with the coordinating die.

A thin strip of Petal Pink Glimmer paper from the Three Colour Glimmer Speciality Paper (a new online exclusive) was flagged at each end and laid across the card. A Basic White label, cut using the largest Stylish Shapes circle die was embossed with the Snowflake Sky 3D Embossing Folder and adhered with Dimensionals. Some Wink of Stella was splattered over the card front.

The remaining pieces were arranged and a double Linen Thread bow adhered in place with a Mini Glue Dot. The final touch of glimmer was the addition of Adhesive-backed Glitter Sequins.

The Basic White card inner was simply stamped in Gray Granite ink with the curved arrangement.  A Basic White C6 envelope was similarly stamped with the same stamp in Gray Granite ink.

CARD 2

The second card has a similar colour scheme, although a couple of different colours were used when colouring the main image.

I hadn’t inked the Framing Foliage stamp set so white heat embossed the Christmas frame onto a Basic White piece of card-stock. This panel was diagonally blended half with Gray Granite and Petal Pink inks, making it a little darker around the embossed image. The image was “bleached” with water and left to dry - that is, a wet fine tipped Water Brush was used to lift the ink within the image.

Once dry Stampin’ Blends Combos, ie Gray Granite, Petal Pink, Old Olive, Calypso Coral, Pecan Pie and the Colour Lifter were used to colour the image. A White Watercolor Pencil was used to add highlights. The letters from the Alphabet A La Mode dies that spell “Happy” cut Basic White card-stock backed with Foam Adhesive Sheet. “Christmas” from the More Wishes stamp set was stamped on Basic White card-stock and fussy cut.

The “Happy” letters were arranged in a higgledy piggledy fashion. (I liked the way the letters were originally arranged but they didn’t end up the same way when adhered. A little bit different makes a difference!) The card was finished with a double bow of Gray Granite Bakers Twine from the Essentials Pack, some gorgeous Adhesive-backed Speckled Dots and a splattering of Wink of Stella.

The card inner was simply stamped in Gray Granite ink on Basic White card-stock using the edge of the Christmas foliage frame stamp. A Basic White C6 envelope was similarly stamped with the same stamp edge, but on both shorter edges of the envelope.

Gray Granite with Framed Florets and Framed & Festive

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a mid grey called Gray Granite. Gray Granite is part of the Neutrals Colour Family and is a grey with a touch of brown. This colour is lovely when used with various shades of pink or yellow and is wonderful when creating a sympathy card. 

Gray Granite is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Stampin’ Blends, Neutrals Designer Series Paper as well as Sun Prints DSPs, Today is the Day Memories & More Card Pack, plus Bakers Twine (in the Essentials Pack) & Shimmer Ribbon.

Here is the card I created using the Fitting Frames suite early release products: 

I do love Gray Granite, although I am not sure I have showed it at its best in the blended framed background. I blended both So Saffron and Gray Granite Classic Stampin’ inks on a piece of Basic White card-stock with the idea of creating a sense of light shining in the darkness from behind the floral arrangement. This piece was placed on a card base of Thick Basic White card-stock. A sentiment from the coordinating Framed & Festive stamp set was stamped in Gray Granite ink.  Some splattering of water and some Wink of Stella added extra interest. The front panel was cut with the oval hearts die from the Framed Florets dies - ie it cuts an oval of hearts. Beautiful.  Another oval die was used to cut the oval hole. This panel was dry embossed with the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder and then splattered with Gray Granite & So Saffron Stampin’ Write Markers. Did you notice my error - the little hearts were cut upside down - oops! The die cut front panel was added with Dimensionals. 

A floral arrangement and a twig of leaves were stamped numerous times in Gray Granite ink on Basic White card-stock. These images were coloured with Stampin’ Blend combos, ie light & dark Cherry Cobbler, Flirty Flamingo, Soft Succulent, Evening Evergreen and a touch of So Saffron, plus the Colour Lifter.  Some detailed leaves were cut from White Glimmer Paper with dies from the Framed Florets dies. This bundle is the first where the stamps and dies will hold the same name, which should make it easier to remember names.

The stamped and coloured elements were arranged together with the detailed die cut pieces and adhered in place with Multi-purpose Liquid Glue, Glue Dots and Dimensionals. The sentiment was stamped a second time with Versamark on Gray Granite card-stock and then it was heat embossed with White Emboss Powder and a Heat Tool. The larger words were fussy cut and added with Mini Dimensionals. To finish off, some White Crinkled Seam Binding and White Bakers Twine were tied into bows and adhered with Glue Dots. The final touch was the addition of some iridescent Heart Pearls.

A Basic White card-stock inner was stamped with the same floral stamp in Gray Granite ink. A thin strip of Gray Granite card-stock was adhered to the left side. I have photographed the card inner before it was adhered inside so the card inner and card front could be see together. It is a different way of showing the inner - What do you think???  A C6 Basic White envelope was also similarly stamped with the image on the back flap.

AWHT Colour Creations #21 Gray Granite

Gray Granite with Festive Foliage & Merriest Moments

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the 21st Art with Heart 2021-2022 Colour Creations Blog Hop.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a grey with a tinge of tan called Gray Granite. Gray Granite is part of the Neutrals Colour Family and is a great colour that can be used in many ways.  

As a neutral it can combine with so many colours. Gray Granite is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Stampin Blends; the Neutrals & Bloom Where You Are Planted, In Good Taste, Simply Elegant, Peaceful Place Designer Series Papers; the Christmas Whimsy card kit; and Shimmer Ribbon. The cards below have used Gray Granite card-stock and Classic ink, plus a range of other bits and pieces.

This week's projects were initially inspired by an international blog hop, "Around the World on Wednesday", with a specific theme of creating 10 in 30, ie creating 10 cards or other projects in 30 minutes. The 30 minutes didn't include certain preparations, such as cutting card bases & matts and die cutting. I was intrigued and wondered about creating a simple card that could be created more quickly once it was designed and various bits and pieces were prepared. The initial idea I had in mind wasn't quite right so I kept fiddling & chose a different stamp set to go with the Festive Foliage background stamp. With the fiddling around I developed a card that would be extremely difficult to create 10 in 30, however, I decided to create the same card but use different colour combinations. As I was called into work I ended up only creating two versions. I will need to finish the other colour combinations later.

The cards are similar with the only differences being the colour of inks and card-stock and coordinating ribbons. They both started by stamping the Festive Foliage stamp in Gray Granite Classic Stampin' ink onto Basic White card-stock. The sentiment from the Merriest Moments stamp set was stamped in Evening Evergreen Classic ink and die cut with one of the smaller Scalloped Contours dies. The stamped backgrounds were mounted on either Polished Pink or Cherry Cobbler card-stock and then on to Gray Granite card bases.

The poinsettias from the Merriest Moments stamp set were stamped in either Cherry Cobbler or Blushing Bride with some Sponge Dauber-ing in Polished Pink Classic inks. The various leaves were stamped, using the same stamp set, in Soft Succulent with dauber-ing in Evening Evergreen (to go with the Cherry Cobbler poinsettias) or Mint Macaron also with dauber-ing in Evening Evergreen to go with the pink poinsettias.

Ribbon, either Cherry Cobbler & Gold or White Glittered Organdy that was coloured with a Light Polished Pink Stampin' Blend, was tied in a bow. All the pieces were arranged and adhered in place with either Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Glue Dots. Brushed Metallic Adhesive-backed Dots were added to the centre of each of the poinsettias. To add that extra bit of shimmer Wink of Stella was splattered across both cards (its such a pity that the camera doesn't capture it).

The card centres were stamped with poinsettias in the coordinating colour as were the C6 Basic White envelopes.

I'm looking forward to playing with other colour schemes that will blend beautifully with Gray Granite. I do so love this neutral.

Art with Heart Colour Creations Showcase - #20 Gray Granite

Gray Granite with Prized Peony and Fancy Phrases 

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the 20th Colour Creations Showcase for 2020 with members of the Art with Heart Team.

So glad you are joining us as we focus on a rich neutral that, as the name suggests, is a colour similar to granite. Gray Granite sits within Stampin' Up!s Neutrals family of colours. Gray Granite can be found in Stampin' Up!s card-stock; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads, re-inkers & Stampin' Spots); Stampin' Write Markers; Stampin' Blends;  Water-colour Pencils, a range of Designer Series Papers, incl Peony Garden DSP, In Good Taste DSP, Feels Like Frost DSP; and Shimmer Ribbon. There is so much gorgeousness.

This week I have created 2 cards with different colour combinations. The cards look quite different given the variations in colour ways, but the Gray Granite does give them some commonality. Both "Get well" cards were created with 2 friends in mind. One friend underwent surgery a couple of days ago and the other had an accident and ended up in hospital. Here are this week's projects:

CARD 1:

My first card used Gray Granite card-stock as the card base, also the beautiful Peony and the sentiment were stamped in Gray Granite Classic Stampin' ink.

The top flap of the Gray Granite card base and a Whisper White card-stock front were cut with the large Many Medallions die. A piece of Window Sheet was cut a tad smaller. This was adhered to the tiny front flap and then the Gray Granite medallions were adhered on the underneath side. The white medallions were adhered to the front of the acetate together with the small top and bottom pieces forming the card front. Prior to die cutting the Whisper White card-stock, a piece of Adhesive Sheet was attached. This made it so easy to remove the backing sheet and adhere the die cut medallions to the acetate. 

It may be worth noting that initially I added a light water-colour wash in Petal Pink Classic ink, however, as I was creating the card front design I felt the Petal Pink wash didn't look right. It had been adhered in place, so a second Whisper White medallion piece (with Adhesive Sheet) was die cut and adhered over the Petal Pink water-coloured piece. The two layers of medallions adds a little extra dimension.

The Peony came from the Prized Peony stamp set. It was coloured with a number of Stampin' Blends, ie Light & Dark Rococo Rose, Light & Dark Petal Pink, Light & Dark Old Olive Blends and the Colour Lifter. I used the Colour Lifter to enhance soft highlights to the petals and leaves. 

Once coloured, the peony was die cut using the Peony dies. The peony bud was trimmed off and then added in a different position, peaking out from beneath the flower to allow room for a sentiment which came from the Many Mates stamp set. The sentiment was stamped directly onto a die-cut label using one of the Hippo & Friends dies. The label was adhered directly to the medallions panel and the peony was popped up on Dimensionals.

The card inner was decorated with a piece of Gray Granite DSP from the Peony Garden DSP and the same label shape that was used on the card front was added inside the card, ensuring it sat exactly beneath the front label. The Gray Granite medallions add a beautiful effect when opening the card. The large peony was also stamped in Gray Granite Classic ink onto the Whisper White C6 envelope.

The card was finished with the addition of five delightful Elegant Facetted Gems with one of the larger ones partially tucked under a leaf.

CARD 2:

My second card also used Gray Granite card-stock as the card base. The floral arrangement and sentiment were stamped in Gray Granite Classic ink and the card was embellished with Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon.

 

The card front was created from Fluid 100 Water-colour paper that had a light Pool Party Classic ink water-colour wash. Following the water-colour wash and prior to it having fully dried, the paper was embossed with the Scripty 3D embossing folder. This was mounted on a slightly larger piece of Pool Party card-stock at an angle, that was then adhered directly, at an angle, to the card base.

The floral spray from the Fancy Phrases stamp set was stamped four times in Gray Granite Classic ink onto a piece of Whisper White card-stock. Two of the floral sprays were considered as the two base sprays and the smaller open flowers were coloured with Light & Dark Pool Party and Light So Saffron Stampin' Blends. These two floral sprays were fussy cut. 

On the other two floral sprays, the larger rose flowers were coloured with Light & Dark Bermuda Bay and Light & Dark Pool Party Stampin' Blends together with the Colour Lifter. A few of the smaller flowers were also coloured. The coloured flowers were fussy cut, lightly shaped and adhered over the same flowers on the base sprays. The smaller flowers were adhered with a tiny dot of Multipurpose liquid Glue, while the roses were lifted on Mini Dimensionals.

The sentiment came from the Fancy Phrases stamp set and was stamped on Whisper White card-stock. This was die cut using one of the rectangular Stitched So Sweetly dies. The die was positioned to align with the bottom of the sentiment and passed through the Cut and Emboss Machine. Then the die was moved to align with the top of the sentiment so the label edge was cut close to the sentiment. This two-step die cutting process can give more flexibility than simply die cutting with one pass through a Cut & Emboss Machine. The sentiment was adhered with Dimensionals over a doubled over piece of Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon.

The card inner was made from a piece of Whisper White card-stock which was similarly stamped in Gray Granite Classic ink using the floral arrangement from the Fancy Phrases stamp set. A very thin strip of the water-coloured paper was added to the side. A Whisper White C6 envelope was also stamped with the same floral stamp in Gray Granite Classic ink.

I hope my cards have provided some ideas and inspiration. I have enjoyed creating them to share. I love Gray Granite as a colour. As a neutral, it coordinates with many colour combinations.

She was groomed this morning and is looking so gorgeous, so I thought I would take a photo of my cards with her in the close background. I set the cards on the ground and Gemma moved away and sat with her back to me. I don't think she wanted to be photographed with the cards. 😉
