Poppy Parade with Pretty Birds & Something Fancy

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. We are working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on an orangey red called Poppy Parade. Poppy Parade is part of the Brights Colour Family and is a strong, happy colour. This colour is lovely when used for flowers, letter boxes, at Christmastime and for a range of other reddish things.

Poppy Parade is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Stampin' Blends Combo; Soft Pastels Assortment; Brights Designer Series Paper as well as Ombré Speciality Paper (Clearance) & some other DSPs in the Clearance Rack; plus the Saying Thanks Kit, Cozy & Bright Kit, and the Love Santa Kit.

Poppy Parade card-stock, ink, Stampin' Blends and some Ombré Speciality Paper have been used in this project plus a range of non-Poppy Parade bits and pieces. Here is my card:

When I was musing what I would create for this blog hop I was reminded of Rosellas that fly in my area. I love catching glimpses of them as they fly by. This thought took me to the Pretty Birds bundle. One idea I had thought of for this bundle was flowers cascading from the bird cage. These concepts were integrated to create this week’s project. 

I started with a very light watercolour wash on a piece of Shimmery White card-stock using Poppy Parade Classic Stampin’ ink and the wide Water Painter. It was dried with the Heat Tool. This panel was embossed with the 3D Timeworn Type embossing folder. A second piece of Shimmery White card-stock also was water-coloured with Poppy Parade ink, ensuring varying depth of colour.

Two different birds from the Pretty Birds stamp set were stamped in Momento Black ink on to Basic White card-stock. I searched the web and found some photos of Rosellas to give me an idea of colours & placement. The birds were coloured with Stampin’ Blends, ie Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Orchard Oasis, Highland Heather and Smoky Slate combos plus the Colour Lifter. While I fussy cut the birds, the coordinating dies include dies to cut these birds.

The large birdcage was die cut using the Pretty Birds dies from Gold Foil as well as another 4 birdcages from Thick Basic White card-stock. All die cuts were layered together with the gold birdcage on top to give the birdcage some dimension. It was then positioned with Mini Dimensionals.  Small flower dies from the Sentimental Park dies cut out many, many flowers in 2 sizes from the extra water-coloured panel. Varying shades of flowers were adhered together - 1 large + 1 small.  The flowers were positioned to look as if they are cascading from the birdcage.

The card front was adhered to a slightly larger piece of Poppy Parade Ombré Speciality Paper, before being added to a Thick Basic White card base. The Ombré Speciality Paper is currently in the Clearance Rack and a reduced rate - such a great buy.

The Rosellas were added with Dimensionals. A sentiment from the Sentimental Park stamp set was stamped in Poppy Parade ink onto Basic White card-stock. This was cut down with the Trimmer and added with Dimensionals. A piece of de-constructed Gold Elegant Trim was swirled around under the sentiment. Some delightful Iridescent Pearls were scattered around to provide a little shimmer. They are beautiful. 

The card inner was created from a piece of Basic White card-stock that had been stamped with the same 2 birds in Momento Black ink. This was mounted onto a slightly larger piece of Poppy Parade card-stock. A C6 Basic White Envelope was similarly stamped with the 2 birds.

Pool Party with Rain or Shine

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a soft blue with a touch of green called Pool Party. Pool Party is part of the Subtles Colour Family and is a delightful versatile colour. This colour is lovely when used for water, sky, sea backgrounds, glass and so much more. It coordinates with so many colours.

Pool Party card-stock, ink, Stampin' Write Marker, Sheer Ribbon, Grosgrain Ribbon and Glossy Dots Assortment have been used in these projects plus a range of non-Pool Party bits and pieces. Here are my cards:

Numerous Pool Party ideas have been tumbling through my mind and I have started creating - also turning a couple of ideas into reality, however, time and energy have gone and some projects are not finished, so there are only 2 cards this week.

As health has continued to be problematic and I haven’t been able to do much, I nudged myself to do some fussy cutting, including cutting out these oh so cute critters from the Rain or Shine Speciality Designer Series Paper.

CARD 1:

Pool Party is such a versatile colour and one of its brilliant uses is as a blended background. A blended Pool Party background works so well with the “rain or shine” concept - and has been used in varying strengths on both cards.

Some Pool Party Classic Stampin' ink was blended over part of the right side of a Basic White card-stock panel that had been embossed with the Raindrops Embossing Folder. The blending is delicate and not well picked up by the camera - it blends out a little larger that the Vellum circle cut by the largest circular Stylish Shapes dies. The blended panel was adhered to a slightly larger Pool Party card-stock panel.

A fussy cut little fox was added with Dimensionals to the Vellum circle, which in turn was adhered to the blended panel using Multipurpose Liquid glue underneath the fox. A little fussy cut puddle and some flowers were also added. A sentiment from the Something Fancy stamp set was stamped in Momento ink and then fussy cut out, cutting away 3 of the words and reforming a sentiment which was added with Dimensionals. A thin strip of Pool Party Grosgrain ribbon was cut and tied into a bow before being tucked under the fox’s tail. Some Pool Party Glossy Dots were added to give a little shimmer.

The card inner was simply created with a Basic White card-stock panel was mounted onto a slightly larger piece of Pool Party card-stock with a little fussy cut edge image adhered to an edge. I don’t like to unnecessarily waste anything including partial images from DSP edges - they are great to use on the edges of card inners and on envelopes. The photo below shows the C6 Basic White Envelope that has also been decorated with partial images.

CARD 2:

The second card uses a darker blended background, in my mind, indicating a heavier rain than the card above.

The focal panel stretches the width of the landscape card. It is a piece of Basic White card-stock mounted onto a larger piece from the Rain or Shine SDSP. They were adhered together near the edge of the panels so the second smallest Stylish Shape circular die that cuts out the 3 aperture’s leaving 3 white circles & 3 seperate SDSP circles. A seperate Basic White panel was cut to the same size of the card. This piece was also embossed with the Raindrops EF before having Pool Party blended in areas that would lie beneath the 3 die cut holes. The card front was mounted over the embossed blended panel using Dimensionals. Some splattering was added using a Pool Party Stampin’ Write Marker.

Two fussy cut critters and a little patch of flowers were added with Dimensionals. A sentiment from the Happy Labels stamp set was stamped in Momento ink on Basic White card-stock and fussy cut out before being added with Dimensionals. A Pool Party Sheer ribbon, cut in half lengthwise, was tied in a bow and slipped under the sentiment. Pool Party Glossy Dots add a little shimmer.

A Basic White card inner was decorated with a couple of strips of coordinating SDSP and a partial fussy cut critter. As with the first card, the C6 Basic White was decorated with a couple of partial fussy cut images from the edges of the SDSP.

Polished Pink with Love for You & Around the Bend Dies

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a bright pink called Polished Pink. Polished Pink is part of the retiring 2021-23 In Colour Family and is a strong colour. This colour is lovely when used for flowers and were ever you need a strong bright pink.

As I was preparing to photograph this card, I realised that there was no stamping - which is sooo unusual for me. However, a number of techniques have been applied, incl Ink Blending, Water Splattering, Splattering using 2 inks, Dry Embossing and Dye Cutting.

I haven't been well all week and wasn't sure if I could participate this week. I have been trying to create but feeling devoid of inspiration. The card's design morphed along the way, partly because of a couple of key errors as well as energy levels. I was planning a Central Panel Spanner card but after gluing the side decorative panels down before adhering the piece to span across the central panel the fold was altered. I decided to glue the top side panels to the inner back panel of the card so that the central panel was the only section to move revealing the panel for writing one's personal message.

A Basic White card front was blended with Polished Pink (alone). It is always interesting seeing a colour in various tints. The blended panel was cut into 4 pieces, ie for the central panel, 2 side panels and a left over piece that was used for die cutting little hearts with the heart die from the Around the Bend dies. These panels were splattered using a Polished Pink Stampin' Write Marker and White Craft ink and a Water Painter. Once dry, 3 panels were embossed with the Pretty Flowers Embossing Folder.

The blended embossed panels were mounted onto Basic White card-stock before being adhered to the Polished Pink card base. As mentioned, the side front panels were adhered to the inner back card base. The tiny die cut hearts were sprinkled down the card in the opposite colouring to the blending of the front panel. Iridescent Heart Pearls were scattered among the blended die cut hearts.

Die cut words from the Love for You dies were cut multiple times from Basic White card-stock that had been backed with Adhesive Sheet. This made it so much easier to layer the die cut words and give depth to the words. A piece of Crinkled White Seam Binding was wrapped around the top of the central panel and tied in a bow.

A piece of Basic White card-stock was prepared for the inner central panel. Some Polished Pink ink blending was added near the top of the panel. Some splattering was added with a Polished Pink Marker and a couple of left over hearts were adhered near the bottom. A C6 Basic White envelope had some blending added to the left side and bottom and the envelope's back flap was also embossed with the same Pretty Flowers Embossing folder.

I created this card to send to a demonstrator in the USA as part of a Demonstrator Planning Place Valentines Card Swap so I didn't want it to be too gushy as I don't know the lady. As such, I just used "for you"  and let the tiny hearts speak of Valentines Day. I hope she likes it.

Petal Pink with Fragrant Flowers Fancy Fold

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a pale pink called Petal Pink. Petal Pink is part of the Subtles Colour Family and is a gorgeous colour. I know Petal Pink is not some of my colleagues favourite, however, I love this pink that is a bit peachy & muted. This colour is lovely when used for a range of flowers, baby cards, and the like.

Petal Pink card-stock, ink, Stampin' Blends, Favored Flowers DSP and Adhesive-Backed Milky Dots have been used in this project plus a range of non-Petal Pink bits and pieces. Here is my card:

I had a few ideas when starting out, but the card morphed into something quite different.  However, water-colouring some flowers was an initial idea that eventuated. Just before starting work on this project I noticed a rose that had been knocked from one of my bushes - this inspired my flower colouring.

I love the rose above with the beauty of the pale pinky orange with brighter pink edges plus. While my rose is different I water-coloured 2 floral arrangements from the Fragrant Flowers stamp set. They were stamped in Versamark ink on Shimmery White card-stock and heat embossed with Gold Emboss Powder and a Heat Tool. A number of the small flower & leaves were also gold heat embossed. All the images were coloured with Petal Pink, Melon Mambo, Soft Succulent & Evening Evergreen Inks. Some were coloured more strongly and others were more subtlety coloured. Once dry, the images were die cut with coordinating Dies from the Fragrant Flowers dies.

A Basic White card-stock card front was die cut with a curvy Around the Bend dies. The die used also cuts out a curvy strip of holes - its gorgeous. A side B piece of the delightful Favoured Flowers Sale-a-bration DSP was used as the background panel that was adhered to a Thick Basic White card base. The white die cut card front was popped up on Dimensionals.

The buds were fussy cut away and the darker water-coloured floral spray was cut apart so the flowers could be separated when rearranged. I ended up using only one darker flower. The floral arrangement was adhered in place with either Dimensionals or Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

The Love for You dies were used to cut out some words in Gold Metallic Foil. Some Adhesive sheet was added to the back of the foil to make adhering the words in place so easy. Some White Glittered Organdy ribbon was coloured with the Light Petal Pink Blend before being cut into 3 pieces length-wise. Only 2 strips were used to tie a double bow. A strand of gold that had been retained from some deconstructed Gold Elegant Trim, was also tied into a bow. The bows were positioned with Glue Dots. Some Petal Pink Adhesive-backed Milky Dots were scattered around to finish the card front.

The card inner is the fancy fold section. As the card opens the sentiment labels pop up to highlight the sentiment itself. It is called a Sliding Pop Up fold. The Something Fancy labels were used to die cut labels from Basic White card-stock and the same Favored Flowers DSP. I saw this fancy fold demonstrated by Susan Campfield. She is a demo in the United States so I needed to convert her dimensions to suit our A4 sizing. I created the fold without rewatching Susan's uTube so didn't create it perfectly. I needed to undo a couple of sections so will try this fold again to refine sizing and process. The card inner was also decorated with pieces of DSP mounted on some Gold Metallic foil. Some small water-coloured flowers were also added.

A Basic White C6 envelope was stamped with the larger floral stamp using Petal Pink Classic Stampin' ink. I stamped on the front of the envelope and also on the back flap.

I designed this card for a special friend's birthday, however, it could also be used for a Valentines Day card or a Friendaversary.

Pear Pizzazz with Fancy Flora

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a somewhat muted green called Pear Pizzazz. Pear Pizzazz is part of the Subtles Colour Family and is a colour that is lovely when used for leaves, trees, fruit (pears & apples) etc and coordinates with so many colours. It makes me think of certain gum leaves.

Pear Pizzazz is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, both A4 & 12"x12"; Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads & re-inkers); Stampin' Write Markers; Subtles Designer Series Paper as well as Day at the Farm, Flowering Fields (Clearance Rack), Subtles (Clearance Rack) DSPs; plus For Everything Fancy Sequins.

Pear Pizzazz card-stock, ink and For Everything Fancy Sequins have been used in this project plus a range of non-Pear Pizzazz bits and pieces. Here is my card:

I love Pear Pizzazz. While muted, there is also a clarity about this colour. I initially thought of using So Saffron & Flirty Flamingo flowers but when I tried it I decided to stretch myself and try something different. I really love this combination of Pear Pizzazz with Fresh Freesia and Blackberry Bliss. What do you think?

I started by creating a background water-colour panel using Pear Pizzazz Classic Stampin' ink, Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and the large flat Water Painter. I used the wet on wet water-colour technique creating a panel with stronger colour near the top and fading out further down the panel. I didn't want a perfectly blended ombre effect but rather some watercolour patchiness. The Two-Tone Flora panel die was used to cut a Basic White card-stock panel to layer over the water-coloured panel. I also cut a Pear Pizzazz card-stock base that would be a tad larger than the die cut panel.

When adhering the panels together with the card base, I thought I would run it through my Cut 'n Emboss Machine to ensure the watercolour panel was adhered flat. However, the die cut panel was really squished flat as well which took away some of the subtle dimension/ texture/shading. I was sooo disappointed and will need to re-think my process in the future.

A range of flowers were stamped onto Basic White card-stock using the Two-Tone Flora stamp set. This is two step stamping with a background stamp and a detailed stamp adding deeper floral details. The stamp set contains 5 different flowers although I have only used 3 different flowers on this card. I needed to practice a little to discover the best stamping formula for me. For me it seemed easier to stamp the background stamp first in a lighter colour and then aligned the central stamens and certain edges to ensure the detailed darker colour stamped correctly. There are 2 different types of leaves - while I stamped out both, I ended up only using the multi-leaf twigs.

The flowers & leaves were arranged. I tried adding a bow in all sorts of ways (see one of the rejected bows in a photo above) but eventually ended up not using a bow at all. I do like adding some ribbon or twine to my projects but there are times when it really doesn't add to the project. Hmm, it did take me a while to come to that conclusion. 😜

The card was finished with a sentiment from the Something Fancy stamp set that was white heat embossed on Pear Pizzazz card-stock. Some of the green For Everything Fancy Sequins were added for a subtle touch of sparkle. There is a gorgeous range of sequin shapes & colours with little pearls. They are so beautiful.

The card inner is very simple here. Pear Pizzazz leaves were added at the bottom of a Basic White card-stock panel. Two left over two-tone flowers were adhered to the right side of a C6 Basic White Envelope. Very simple additions have brought coordination.
