AWH Colour Creations Blog Hop #6 Basic Beige

Basic Beige with Magnolia Mood

Hello. Welcome to Valley Inspirations with Andrea and the Art with Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop. This week we are focussing on a new Basic colour that was added to Stampin’Up!s colours in May, with the introduction of the new Annual Catalogue. From next week we will be  working though the Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order, focussing on one colour each week.

This week’s Blog Hop is focussing on a light sandy colour called Basic Beige. Basic Beige has been added to the Basics Colour Family and is a neutral that can coordinate with so many colours. Apart from a neutral background colour it would be wonderful for sand, wood and anything requiring a pale sandy colour.

Basic Beige is produced in Stampin' Up!'s card-stock, ie A4Classic Stampin' inks (ink pads re-inkers); both Country Woods and Country Lace Designer Series Paper as well as Bordered Ribbon and the Ephemera Packs.

Almost every day I walk past a magnificent magnolia tree. It has given me a real fondness for magnolia flowers and so I was delighted when the Magnolia Mood bundle was released as an On-Line Exclusive. I recently saw a beautiful photo of pinky magnolias with a beautiful blue sky and so was inspired to create this card.

The frame was cut using another On-line Exclusive, the Radiating Stitches dies with Basic Beige card-stock.The inner layers were also cut with these dies. The background inside the frame is a panel from the Country Lace DSP and the central panel was cut from Basic White card-stock. It was coloured with a little Balmy Blue ink and a Blending Brush.

The large magnolia image from the Magnolia Mood stamps was stamped in Basic Beige Classic ink. When it is first stamped it has a distinct green tinge, however, this disappears as the ink dries. The image was coloured with Stampin’ Blends, ie Pretty in Pink, Old Olive combos plus a little Crumb Cake - the Light Crumb Cake Blend is perfect for Basic Beige. Plus the Colour Lifter to soften highlights.

A little Versamark ink was swiped over bits of the Basic Beige frame then White Emboss Powder was sprinkled over and it was melted with a Heat Tool. To carry the white through, some foliage was cut from Basic White card-stock using both the Magnolia Mood dies and the Thoughtful Wishes dies

Some Linen Twine was wrapped around the framed panel. A sentiment from the Magnolia Mood stamps was white heat embossed and fussy cut. A triple bow was tucked under the coloured magnolia. The final touch - a sprinkling of the gorgeous In Color Shimmer Gems.

Inside the card, the magnolia was stamped onto a Basic White panel with Basic Beige ink and a thin strip of Basic Beige card-stock was adhered at the base. A C6 Basic White envelope was also stamped with the magnolia in Basic Beige ink.

Such a beautiful magnolia card Andrea. As has been said I too really love the rustic effect you have applied to the Radiating Stitches die cut. It's very effective and one I might just have to CASE.

  6. Beautiful work, Andrea. The Radiating Stitches dies, perfectly frame your magnolia, but I love how you added the touches of white heat embossing to it. The watercolouring is lovely in the backgrround and all the layers are delightful.

  10. Andrea your cards never disappoint. Your magnolia is so perfectly coloured and all the other layers add so much texture and interest. I particularly like the use of the heat embossing to add texture to the Basic Beige frame.
